In the version of BOINC I have on my quad core, if you just suspend units you don't get any more downloaded, even if your qeue is empty apart from the suspended ones. So if trying to snare betas I'd either have to let them finish or abort them.

I suspend the non BETA units just long enough for the BETA ones to get going then I hit resume. The BETAs keep going to completion. At least that is how my client works. I do this because I want the BETA units to get completed before the full Days worth of other work that is queued up.

I'm already seeing 'Server Aborted' after they've finished (4.5 to 10 hours of CPU time each) but reporting in 3rd, so they get tossed apparently. That's very dissapointing, I've seen a number of my WU's aborted by server when I connected my PC to the net this evening. Had I known this was going to happen I would have aborted the production WU's ahead of them in the qeue to let the betas complete first. Instead I was a good citizen and didn't abort any WU's, and seeing my little stock of Betas dissapear before my eyes was the result. ![]() My poor little atom is crunching away on units and will take around 16hrs to complete each, so I'm expecting it'll be wasted effort. IMHO if a computer picks up a Beta WU that unit should be allowed to run it's course unless there is a problem identified with that WU. I got a way out of the server aborts ![]() "Server Aborted" happens when a WU reaches a quorum and the unlucky machine that connects to the server gets the update kills the WU. So if you have betas in your queue, set your network connectivity to suspend and also suspend non-beta WU to expedite the betas. Once beta is complete you can resume your normal process. BTW, its quite easy to get betas. Prior to betas release, your cache size should be <=1 day. Once they are released increase it gradually. Now I would get my first beta badge. Was expecting silver based on the reported runtime but machine runs them around 2hrs, so bronze is fine with me. ![]() ![]() |

Fetching more work is part of the Update process; the 2nd half is reporting the uploaded WUs. When it finishes (100%) and uploads the results the WU sits in the Tasks tab until the next Update. It also stays at 'In Progress' in Results Status on MyGrid here until BOINC next updates that project (most people here run only the WCG project). |

I am surpised a CA or tech has not jumped in to clarify that the behavior on server aborts is that it only happens if the client has NOT started the task. Once it starts it is allowed to finish. If you still have the numbers of the WUs that were in progress on your PC that got aborted by the server please post them and let's see if they can be investigated.

Steve Unfortunately, they've already been cleared from the Results Status pages. ![]() Doubly-odd, doncha think? Especially since results from other WU's that were counted in the 2nd update (finished @ 12:06:03 zulu) today are still there. |

If you still have the numbers of the WUs that were in progress on your PC that got aborted by the server please post them and let's see if they can be investigated. Server can send two different types of abort-messages, the most common is <result_abort_if_not_started> and it only aborts if task haven't started. This happens if quorum has already been met. But, server can also send unconditional abort, <result_abort>, this happens if: 1: Wu aborted by project. 2: Wu errored-out with too many errors, success or total results. 3: If not returned by deadline, if wu already validated and canonical result for wu has already been deleted from disk, it can't be validated so is aborted. 4: Wu isn't in database any longer. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. 88 Beta WU in; 2 Server Aborted; 4 IP/4 PV with all the rest Valid (except for 4 errors from the initial rough start). Nice and Clean Beta overall
