All appears to have gone well this round.

Wow!
Got 17 beta units on my 3 machines (running under XP, Ubuntu and Vista). This is about 20% of all received betas since I started crunching in 2006. No unit errored out so far, 4 are valid at this time. This looks much better than last week's run. |

I'm already seeing 'Server Aborted' after they've finished (4.5 to 10 hours of CPU time each) but reporting in 3rd, so they get tossed apparently. Hope you're able to return yours 1st or 2nd if you need the time towards the next level. |

Will the server abort a WU, after the first 2 of 3 WU have validated, if the 3rd WU is running? I understand if the WU has not started yet, but if it is running then the server could be throwing away 99.9% of the time completed by the Beta WU.

A member asked what happens to the beta tasks and if they were integrated into the batches of production work. Not always possible or practical, but heck, one grabs a few and not 24 hours later here comes the efficiency boss to cancel them from the client queue even before starting:

It was in a loop doing this for about an hour before I saw it. Since my winmen have already validated I aborted this one. I did not reset the project. I only mention it at all because this is a beta test. -Jasm

1 boot
----------------------------------------2 consider that your security software is acting up. I exclude all BOINC data dir scanning in the AV and add exclusions when a new science version comes around. Some firewalls will act up too on that and seeking permission/exception.

I'm already seeing 'Server Aborted' after they've finished (4.5 to 10 hours of CPU time each) but reporting in 3rd, so they get tossed apparently. That's very dissapointing, I've seen a number of my WU's aborted by server when I connected my PC to the net this evening. Had I known this was going to happen I would have aborted the production WU's ahead of them in the qeue to let the betas complete first. Instead I was a good citizen and didn't abort any WU's, and seeing my little stock of Betas dissapear before my eyes was the result. My poor little atom is crunching away on units and will take around 16hrs to complete each, so I'm expecting it'll be wasted effort. IMHO if a computer picks up a Beta WU that unit should be allowed to run it's course unless there is a problem identified with that WU. |

For future reference, you could Ctrl+click on each non-beta on the Tasks tab and click Suspend (it's like a pause button), without aborting them... assuming they have more time before their report deadline than do the beta units. I don't *think* that BOINC will update projects automatically while tasks are suspended, though. I could be wrong about that. I don't get why an Intel 2.4GHz P4 (fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx) takes 10-12 hours to process them when an AMD Athlon 2.1GHz (fpu tsc sse 3dnow mmx) runs them in 5-6 hours (both have 1GB of DDR RAM). I just find it hard to fathom that AMD's 3dnow feature is that much faster than sse2. |
