Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

It would seem to me that the projects here at WCG are as worthy or more worthy than those at any other DC place...of course that is highly subjective. If they are, then it would seem that points are the draw to other DC projects?

Well, for me the science projects are the draw. You crunch what you are interested in and hope will prove results. WCG's are no better or worse. Credits, like money, is just a way of keeping score. biggrin

Agree wholeheartedly. I like the science at YOYO and I like the speed of GPUGrid and their ingenuity.

HELP Blizzie/Jonathan HELP
I spent the whole afternoon trying to get BOINC to recognize that 3rd card. I guess I will have to register at BOINC and post my problem. sad

MoBo - EVGA nForce 780i SLI
BOINC - 6.6.36
Driver - 185.85
Cards - 3 - EVGA 9800GTs
OS - Vista 64 bit
Memory - 6 GB
SLI - off
PhysX - on

Others run 3 or 4. confused

Hi DM, did you try to attach 1 monitor per card? :)

Thanks ... How? The farm runs on a KVM switch. Just one monitor, keyboard, and mouse for all but the weather station machine.

peace

Each card needs a dummy DVI dongle.

You can try using some spare monitors. Don't use a KVM for now. At least if it works, then you know the problem. Attach one monitor per card. :)

Better to have the real deal monitor, just for troubleshooting purposes. :)

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

Howdy MOT
I took some time away from the garden and finished the build on the machine with 3 9800GT's. With the new MoBo I had to do a complete, clean reinstall of Vista to convenience Balmer that I actually owned the operating system. angry devilish angry It took over two hours to do updates. angry The rest went smooth except BOINC only sees 2 cards. The device manager sees 3 cards with the correct drivers, Precision sees 3 cards and Speedfan sees 3 cards. With PhysX off BOINC only sees 1 card and with it on it sees 2. I don't know what else to do. Anyone have any ideas?? confused
The good news is the temps are very good; GPU1 72C, GPU2 69C, GPU3 45C (because it is not doing anything)
I ran out of Artic Silver; when it gets here in the morning I will build the machine with 2 GTX260's. smile
BOINCStat's has been real slow to update the ranking for the last 2 days. I think we are #186 but we may actually be #185.
cowboy

Howdy, DM.
I read somewhere on one of the boards that every card has to have a monitor connected to it. If you don't have a monitor, you can buy (or probably make) a monitor plug that makes the card think that there is a monitor on it without actually using a monitor.
Either way, the card has to think that someone is watching it before it will do anything.
[edit] Oops - I see that Jonathan has already answered it... But yes, I think that's correct...

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

For some reason, all of my GPUGRID wu's fail during the download. Been going on for days now.
I tried resetting the project, and that didn't work.
I just rebooted the computer, and am waiting out my quota, now. Only allowed to return 4 per day per machine, I guess...

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

Good morning MOT

Thanks for all the great help! That gives me some new things to look into.
I only have two monitors and 10 cards and not running a KVM would be a deal breaker. This morning I put DVI adapters on each plug and rebooted but there was no change. After breakfast I can take the weather station monitor and do some testing. However, right now GPU #2 has no monitor or adapter on it and BOINC sees it. It's only GPU#3 that is slacking off. laughing
If someone can give me a link (or proper terminology) for a DVI terminator plug I would greatly appreciate it. I'll search Cables to Go later on today.
The good news is the two that are running are running about 8C cooler than they were in individual machines. I think they run a bit faster but I need more completed wu's to tell.

@Chris: Strange as I have not had a failed wu at GPUGrid in over two months except for the ones I trashed setting up the 3-card machine. You may want to boot more often. I boot mine once a week except DM2 which has to be done every 3 days or BOINC just stops running. I think that one is due for some fresh memory but I have not tested it in a long time. Cheaper just to reboot. laughing biggrin laughing

@Blizzie: Where the heck are you? laughing biggrin laughing

Thanks again for all the suggestions. peace

Eeeewww ... sick. I wonder if exorcism works on ignorance? confused

I switched GUP2 with GPU3 just to eliminate 3 being a bad card. No change. I put monitors on 2 and 3. No change. In every instance #3 does not crunch. sad I searched for DVI terminators but can only find adapters and gender benders.
I have to go back to my other job as farm worker. laughing Anyone want summer squash? I'm up to my knees in them. Also green beans. I finshed 24 quarts of tomato sauce. That should last me for a year. I should have corn in a week or so.
If anyone has anyother GPU ideas let me know.

I don't know about 3 GPus for GPUGrid. Are you using XP or Vista?

I know on Vista for Folding@Home you have to use dummy plugs.

Vista 64 bit
Can you show me a link to what dummy plugs? I can't find anything at cablestogo but then I don't know what I am looking for. wink
Thanks!

EDIT: I found this at overclockers
http://www.overclock.net/overclock-net-foldin...30-second-dummy-plug.html
Appears one has to make them ... yuk! wink
