Put this in your cc_config.xml file:
<cc_config> <log_flags> </log_flags> <options> <client_version_check_url>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/download.ph...ent_version_check_url> <client_download_url>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/download.php</client_download_url> <network_test_url>http://www.ibm.com/</network_test_url> <start_delay>120</start_delay> </options> </cc_config> |

BOINC 6.2.28 is the officially supported Windows version. There is no confusion or ambiguity - the official version is the version you can download here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do From time to time, Berkeley may recommend other versions. These versions have not been tested and approved by World Community Grid. You use them at your own risk. Berkeley "recommends" a new version every other week - we do not consider them stable or properly tested. If you install BOINC 6.2.28 and have the correct cc_config.xml file, then BOINC Manager will only inform you about World Community Grid recommended releases, instead of nagging you every time Berkeley find yet another bug. I have only one more question. If I install cc_config.xml file and am running BOINC 6.3.36, will I have any abnormal processing as a result? This is the first I have heard about this xml file. What takes so long to complete testing and approval of a new version, or is this like the years of testing that go on for a new drug only to find out that the drug is responsible for early death for a different reason. ![]() |

dkt, there are no new features in recent BOINC versions that make WCG want to waste time on testing them. The process takes a minimum of several weeks, and uses valuable developer time. Read about the process here: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/BOINC_beta_testing
Note that most recent BOINC versions have failed at step 1. It's not until step 5 that you will hear WCG are working on a new recommended release (but there may be rumours earlier). All cc_config.xml settings are forwards compatible, and most of them are backwards compatible. It's sad that Berkeley don't provide stable long-term support releases, but WCG do their best to fill the gap. It's not ideal, though: really we should have had a bugfix release in the 6.2 branch by now. |
