@brown chris,

I'll wait for the actual release of Windows 7 before I take the plunge. Too wary of betas and all! biggrin Been hearing a LOT of good reviews of that OS lately. Hope MS finally does it right. wink

@Jonathan Figdor,

Yes, and a 9800 that I've been experimenting with. Seems that Vista doesn't want to run well with that card and a 185.85 Nvidia driver and the latest Intel chipset driver (had to use the one before the latest).... ugh... learned the hard way after like 6-7 reinstalls! crying

I see you've crunched some Yoyo, Seti and MilkyWay too. MOT is there as well. MW is working on GPU crunching though they are setting it up as a separate project. Lattice is supposedly working on GPU too though they've have a challenge ith providing regular work. Welcome aboard!

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 35 smilesmile

I fear the cooling on that Dell...

I have had dozens (literally) of Dells for myself and others I support. There has been but one cooling problem and that was just a fan that would speed up and slow down in a distracting way. The specific Dell listed is like the one I have sitting a few feet away from me while I type this, running 8 WUs 24/7 without any cooling problems for about 6 months so far.

My roommate's Dell is hilariously undercooled by a feeble 120mm exhaust fan and a basic hs/fan. No intake fans. No bottom-mounted power supply. No real feel of airflow at all. Ended up cooking a few hard drives so he bought a replacement pc. Now neither of us are tempted to give them another shot.

I suspect the timing of when you bought from Dell is a factor. They've had some problems to work through and seem to be getting it back together again.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 35 smilesmile

Wow that is a lot. I run Evo and Muon and have not run Ecm in a while. Yoyo is a hosting service like WCG so every project is unique. That is a bunch of memory.

Yes, and with Muon, it appears that pausing a WU is not a good idea as the checkpointing must be pretty rare.

That's good to know. I've never paused one. Yoyo runs so good I seldom pay any attention to it.

I'm not sure if it's the norm with Muon or just the recent WUs. They come in to my C2D at about 16 hours to complete. Almost as soon as they start, they go to 33.333% complete and drop to about 6-8 hours to complete. In the end, the original estimate is reasonably accurate. As for percentages complete, I've also seen them at 40, 50, 66.666, and 70 as well. If you're running Yoyo on a machine with other projects, it may be a good idea to keep WUs in memory when they suspend to avoid losing work with Yoyo. With the way the times to complete change, it could get you more work from other projects that could get tight making deadlines on. Hard to be real precise but that is what I'm seeing so far. Just be careful with Yoyo.

Edit: Also, you could use the Advanced-Preferences option on BOINC Manager to set the time between switching projects on a machine running Yoyo to something high enough for it to complete the Muon WU.

My Muon's go from ~2.5 hours up to ~16 hours on a Q6600. My C2D is down for the summer and it's wu history has expired so I don't know its run time.
The 33.333/66.333 is normal for Muon. I have them set to keep wu's in memory too. I think the checkpoints are much more frequent as I've not had any problems with reboots.

The oddity with Evo is that some of the wu's march right past 100% and keep on going. They usually don't go past 105-125% but I remember one that went to 170%. But you get good credit for the excess time and they always validate.

I used to do a few wu's on muon.. thought it was visually pretty cool back then..
