CMD I think is an old acronym for CoMmanD. ;>)

There is not one shadow of a doubt that it is.

Re: BETA 8, version 6.08, April 15, 2008, virii ?

the P4 even got another beta WU when the first one finished, but then NAV 2009 decided the second one was a virus and promptly removed it.

When was it removed and from where?

I'm currently minus 4 from UTC, so according to the timestamp on that log entry it was removed 21:29:55 GMT on 04/22.

I used the 'Restore Risk' button to bring it back from the Quarantine a couple hours later, and I presume it was restored to the folder from which it was removed ('slots'). It was promptly removed again, that's why I added 'slots' to the exclude list (then restored it again). I've also added 'projects' (and its sub folders) to the excluded list now. Hopefully nobody will find a way to send worms through the work units. :-|

Here's a shot of the messages showing when the file was downloaded. I guess (?) it is not a work unit, per se.

If it is after successfully downloading and before Boinc tries to start it you have a chance by putting the file back where it should be, i.e. in \projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org in your Boinc Data directory, not in a slot directory. The slots directories are used by running applications.

If Boinc detected the failure this WU is probably lost. Check your Results Status page to see if this WU is there and with which status.

Cheers. Jean.

The results for that machine shows:

And those data were not included in the 'My Grid' stats this morning... if they are included tonight I will have made it over 1 day on my first try.
Next time maybe I'll put more than just those 2 computers on the case.

I see now this is not the thread I was talking about in my first message - I was referring to the tips in the 'new beta badges awarded' thread. Didn't mean to hijack this one... I thought the title nearly matched the work units I was getting, so posted about the error here. Sorry.

If it's bad form posting all these image links, please let me know and I'll delete them. Thanks also for your timely replies, by the way.

Re: BETA 8, version 6.08, April 15, 2008, virii ?

Thanks for the details ZoSo.
The file which has been removed by Norton is the science application, i.e. the program which makes the computation.
When I asked "when it has been removed" I was meaning "at which stage of the process". Apparently it could be downloaded without any complaint from Norton which removed it only when Boinc started to execute this WU. This is confirmed by the time of the removal (17:29:55) , the time on the error message in Boinc's log (17:29:56), and the fact that Norton removed it from a slot directory, not from the projects directory. Files necessary to run a WU are placed in one of the slots directories only while they are executing. Once the WU is finished the corresponding slot directory is cleared and it is used again for the next starting WU. Restoring a file later to this directory is useless and you have no chance to rerun it again: once the WU is finished and the result file(s) uploaded then its life in your machine is over.

You can safely exclude your \projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org directory from Norton's reach, WCG is making sure that nothing dangerous is sent to you from their servers when your machine contacts them (remember that no data can be pushed to Boinc from an unauthorized entity, it's always Boinc which pulls data from the servers it knows). You can also exclude the slots directories if you run only WCG projects or other projects that you trust.

The last picture that you show is not your Results Status page, it is the quorum details for the WU which has failed. In this WU status your copy is the one on the orange background (copy _2) with a runtime of 0.00. Normal, the program was no longer there!
The 18.32 hours that you dream to see added to your stats is not yours, it is the result of one of your peers. smile

Thank you for your report of this problem which might affect other users of Norton products. Jean.

Re: BETA 8, version 6.08, April 15, 2008, ANONYMOUS

Are Beta CMD2 WU's planned for Linux as well? I only have one machine running Windows so my Beta chances are slim with this test. Other than Beta, this is the only project that I have crunch time invested without a badge yet

We are running the application for Linux and Mac in alpha now. We will be starting another beta tomorrow that will include all three platforms.

YooHoo!!!
Got already 9 new Beta's on Linux and Windows.
Hopefully they will run ok and if not, give the techs enough food to research smile

Will you be announcing when this "other" Beta test starts?
