Thanks Leslie and Roberto (as well as everyone else in the CEP/WCG team, beavering away in the background) for your update - it's much appreciated

Thank you so much, Zudwa. Added in FAQ to your original here above. Is Русско for Russian spelled correctly? If so, no need to reply. thanks again. Thanks. "Русско" is correctly, but not this time. More correctly is "Русский". |

Picked up a few from batch 481 about an hour ago on a mix project profile, so they're out there for sure. Still chewing on the last of batch 479. Some real shorties in there of under 3.5 hours.

You were lucky, my Q6600 box is chewing on some 479's with a bit more gristle in them. They have pushed the average CEP completion time in BOINC up to 12h (and rising).

There seems to be a huge discrepancy between different PCs. I am crunching one at the moment that looks like it is going to take about 24 hours. My wingman has already reported with 9.66 hours of CPU time. I'm already at over 10 hours with 38% completion.
Is this to do with the way that different PCs handle all the page faults, or is it some quirk with the WUs? |

It is not a quirk with the work units.
----------------------------------------Variation between computers can easily account for a 4x (or more) difference. Some computers are simply faster than others (and even if you think yours is exceptionally fast, there are faster ones out there). But you are concerned whether your computer is adversely affected by page faults. Open Task Manager and select the Performance tab. Watch the red line. What level does it average? (If there is no red line, click View -> Show Kernel Times) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 5, 2009 6:06:15 PM] |

(If there is no red line, click View -> Show Kernel Times) I appreciate that there are faster PCs out there than mine. It just these results seem wildly different, and I've been seeing similar results on most WUs - some where I'm quicker, but most where the wingman is quicker. The red line is averaging about 10-15%. Not sure if this is good or bad really. |

Compare that to my Q6600 with 2 CEP and 2 HFCC running. The red line sits flat at the bottom for the 2 HFCC processes and slightly over 2% for the CEP jobs.

If you want to talk about differences by computers, I have 3 computers all crunching only CEP, all made in 2002. The WUs range from 7 hours to over 16 hours. They are different architectures and the difference that makes is pretty apparent with CEP. Also, I see what you mean, my P4 got 7.7 hours when my wingman got 11.6, but then 8.1 when they got 4.7. On most of them I'm getting more credit than I'm claiming so no complaints here! ![]() |
