Hello and welcome Anita and Cecil!
----------------------------------------There is nothing wrong with being a badge chaser: the badges have been added to WCG's website to keep members motivated, therefore it is fine if members chase them! Anyway I am sure that nobody comes crunching at WCG only for the badges (they have no value outside WCG), therefore everybody has joined for the projects first, and some are having fun chasing badges later on. Please don't feel upset if some members are a little "extreme" when they express their opinion, as long as they are following the rules of this forum. By the way I don't take your very first post as a complaint either: you too are simply expressing your opinion and it's all fine. Thank you again for your contribution, and happy crunching! Jean. |

I have been running WCG at the maximum for my computer for over two years now for about 16 hours a day. I am doing my part JUST as your are. We are all in this together for the same goal. Not for badges alone, although the award is a very nice touch. Bravo

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks, Jean. That explains my observation of fewer Rice WUs. Also,as the majority of our boxes run several projects, we are probably picking up the slack on older projects for the Badge chasers. I'm sure things will even out when 'gold' is achieved by all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello All, As you can see this my first post. It's a shame that I wasted it on a complaint about a previous post, but I just couldn't let this go by without saying something!! What is wrong with being a "badge chaser"??? And, not all of us can afford multiple or the new computers of today to process 90 days of computer time in 2 or 3 calender days (which is great). I have been running WCG at the maximum for my computer for over two years now for about 16 hours a day. I am doing my part JUST as your are. We are all in this together for the same goal. Not for badges, although the award is a very nice touch. I remember back when there were no badges at all as you probably do. Well anyway, enough of that!! I do not mean to offend anyone but I had to say something. My apologies for lack of sensitivity for a tongue-in-cheek term. Your first post and my last. Good luck. |

Hello and welcome Anita and Cecil! There is nothing wrong with being a badge chaser: the badges have been added to WCG's website to keep members motivated, therefore it is fine if members chase them! Hello Anita & Cecil and welcome to the forums. Please don't feel that your first post is a complaint. One of the great things about this forum is that there are so many people each with their own individual ideas and discussing the merits of various viewpoints is what keeps this forum interesting - It would be rather dull if everybody had the same opinion. Thank you for adding your individual thoughts to this. On the subject of badge-chasing, I've been here for nearly 4 years now. I selected the projects I wanted to run and in the early days, it very much depended on the capabilities of the machine(s) I was running on as they were quite old even for that time. However, the only progress I was able to see was around the "points" system, CPU time or number of results. As this grows it seemed to become more irrelivant and I stopped coming back and checking. Now that the badges are here, I can easily see how my contribution to each project matches us and I can adjust and tailor my crunching effort to give a better distribution of project contribution and try to achieve a top badge in every project. Given this, I would be termed a badge-chaser, but as Jean said, these badges have no value in the outside world and for me they have reignighted my interest in keeping a closer eye on how I'm crunching - I'm making sure I make as much of my CPU time as I can, I've signed up to the Beta testing and I've even got a really old machine out of the attic to help with the effort. The upshot is that I get to do more. Even when I get gold in all the current projedcts (which is still a while away yet I think) then I can use the data to go for a year of CPU time on every project. I don't have many machines, just the few mainly older technology PCs at home, but I'm pleased I can make a contribution and that my contribution has increased since the badges were implemented. I hope to see you posting here again soon. |

AnRM, Your apology is totally accepted. I guess you are right that the comment was only meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I will not be as sensitive here in the future. We all need some humor. |

Anita and Cecil....thanks for the note. I learned a valuable lesson and will be more circumspect in the future......Cheers, happy crunching, and good luck, Rog. Hi Jasm580,
----------------------------------------I'm taking the estimated date from Sek's excellent graphs - and thus, at the moment, it's showing March 2010. |
