Thank you so much for some unforgettable days in Yorkshire, Ted and Ted's relativenot to mention dog who charmed this cat loving Viking and now understands Danish. By the time I reached Coventry after negotiating some 164 roundabouts - they are not easy even as I'm beginning to get the drift - having sneaked into the bathroom of a Mexican restaurant that did not want my money for using it as they saw a woman in distress and upon realizing a breast feeding of Rosie was looming by the insistent behaviour of the petrol gauge having sat-naved a petrol station where the proprietor who was the proud owner of several Dodges and Chryslers - all fitted for right hand drive - found it so amusing seeing me and right hand Rosie driving up to the "wrong side of the pump" - which is the right side if you go in Japanese or American cars - that he insisted on pumping the petrol for me - something I haven't enjoyed for some 35 years - I aimed for the Transport Museum in Coventry. I had a glimpse of the old and the new cathedrals but not of any parking facilities, so after having circled for a while I decided that I might have seen enough transport already and set off for Warwick where I found curbside parking and delved into the sandwiches and fruit, I had received from my "landlady" upon leaving in the morning. Warwick was a lovely place to stroll - lots of halftimbered houses in delightful patterns - not necessarily needed for the strength of the construction, but in that highly decorative Tudor style - not to mention Warwick Castle. In spite of not being hungry at all, my curiousity and I could not resist the sign advertising "Cream Tea" in front of the Lord Leycester Hospital I checked in early at the Glebe Hotel at Barford and expect to hit Stratford-upon-Avon and its Shakespeare related sights and Worcester and its Cathedral before reaching the south coast and my hotel reservation in Poole tomorrow. So many people - Guitar Man was the first - has recommended a visit to Corfe Castle that I have decided to fit that in - he-he, the aloof one remembers saying something about "one more castle", eh Guitar Man? Sorry about that! |

Captain Edwardian, I know this is a strange way to express my gratitude for your Yorkshire hospitality.
Jumping ship. I'm moving to Team The Survivors with whom the Base Campers shall do their slightly delayed Summer Trek. In our normal chaotic way, several Base Campers have already moved in with Team The Survivors, drastically expanding the membership list of this struggling one-man team. Ted, please say hello to your brother from me, to my "landlady" whom I know you'll meet today - and not least to dog IN DANISH, mind you. Have a safe trip south! |

Evening all
Yet another warm and sunny late summer day. So pleasant enough walking to the supermarket and remaining good enough to encourage me to get the leaf Hoover out of the shed and do some serious clearing up. Off to No 1 daughter for lunch tomorrow and then the neighbour's BBQ on Sunday. What a hard life it is! |

No commemorative plaques nor Historical Markers showed up on my evening stroll in Branford.
However, everywhere I looked, I saw beautiful halftimbered Tudors, brickwork, chimneys, carpenter's lace, a thatched roof like a ski cap pulled down your forehead and wonderful gardens - one of them even had a considerable palm tree! St. Peter's Church next door still had the "Open" sign out. The man who listened at the door said I could go in if I could take the noise from the choir practise. I could, of course. A rather fidgety man asked if I was a visitor to the village, and <sigh> if I was German. Funny enough he seemed to relax upon learning I am Danish. He told me the choir was practising Lohengrin's Wedding March in German, because he wanted that not only played but also sung at his daughter's wedding tomorrow. I did not know that Wagner (well, he meant Wagner, of course) had made The Wedding March - thought it was Mendelssohn. YouTube has the title by both composers, but they sound suspiciously alike. Wagner's Bridal Chorus Mendelssohn's Wedding March "So you're nervous?" I asked. He was. It was his only daughter. I was invited at 12:30 ... I Loved Her First ![]() |

Some thing I Said? Stay in touch ![]() No. I will. I'll blabber all over your parlour here. Dip it in words and roll it in verbosity. Beware of those roundabouts with the rhinos on the loose in them when going south .... |
