Coventry Climax built 748cc 4cyl alloy engine's for fire pumps
----------------------------------------this was named the Godiva. These engines were adopted/adapted for the rear engined Hillman imp The racing crowd from the top down loved the climax engines Cooper climax-- Colin Chapman Places of interest to visit Tamworth where Reliant's were built There is a JCB Factory nearby in Cannock Then there are the Pigs ![]() A superior breed to anything available anywhere in Europe http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/swine/tamworth/Tamworth-Pig-1.jpg for Merle ---------------------------------------- [Edit 3 times, last edit by densnaps at Sep 4, 2011 7:12:31 PM] |

Thank you, very much, Ted
Yes, I'm sure there's very much to see in York, and it might be a good idea to dwell there for several days - even in my own home town where I think I know everything, I can spend days catching up according to newfangled brochures A sketchy route is already forming: Dover - Poole - Coventry - Liverpool - Lake District - Hadrian's Wall - Myton-on-Swale - York - East Kirby - Dover Looking at the map a few things clicked in - stopped looking at the map The distances are not frightening - rather that you are many Brits to cover those short distances Are you from York? And your brother remained there? And I could see Ted in Myton on Swale as well ... could be nice ... we could go to that fish'n'chips place together - looked up Myton on Swale on Google Maps - it looks idyllic and about ½ hour from York Is your brother Tony in York proper? |

If you hit the M3, on your way to Poole, you could drop off at Camberley, in Surrey, and pay me a visit!

Thank you Blackbird, Merle (and of course I don't say sweetie any more)
- actually I would love to have a cup of tea with you. So far it castles in the sand - but the tide is at ebb You wouldn't feel like going to Poole to say hello to Guitar Man? |

Evening all
A lot of dark clouds but no rain of any consequence. After too many years driving 18k plus a year, I've been very happy in the last ten without a vehicle and letting somebody else handle the wheel. It's one of the advantages of living in the Smoke where transport is good and the odd cab doesn't break the bank. It does, however, make Poole a problem when the fastest route by rail would take a bit over three hours. |

Where are you blanco ivan?
Distances may be more considerable than I thought - 3 hours by rail means some 250 km in my math ... |

Thank you, Scribe
OK, Rosie will not go there as a principle unless something very good could be said about the local roundabouts @ Merle: Would you contemplate going to Poole to say hello to Guitar Man, Scribe (and me who would like to meet you for tea at the very least but find it great if you went to Poole to say hello to "the guys" who can be there)? ![]() |

interest to visit Tamworth where Reliant's were built Been there done that had the celtic brown one ...![]() Edit: wrong color - didn't match my Idaho potato badge Forgotten that I had seen a picture of your Scimitar..... however proper Reliants are forever those with just three wheels A peculiar vehicle to drive with one wheel at the front to steer with the rear wheels pushing. A better layout is the reverse with a pair of driven wheels steering at the front like the old Morgan with a lusty V twin motorcycle engine stuck on the front . Bond Mini cars who where bought out by Reliants , did use the Climax engine in a four wheeled version that broke the Lap record at Brands Hatch driven by John Surtees they also made the bond Bug some back yard engineers fitted the Imp climax engines to this wedge shaped 3 wheeler ...Hairy. http://www.imps4ever.info/specials/bond.htm ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by densnaps at Sep 4, 2011 7:09:00 PM] |
