Re: Re:

Good morning all.........
What a day......................
Our cousins across the pond are celebrating (if that is the right word to use) the demise of Bin laden! whilst here we are mourning the loss of our great boxing hero Henry Cooper!

To Bin Laden I say 'good riddance'.

To 'Our' Henry I say, goodby dear friend, you gave great joy and pleasure to millions, a true gentleman you will be sadly missed, R.I.P rose

Re: Re:

Evening all

Plenty of sun here but a chilly breeze gets at you once you cross into shadow.

I'm trying to get myself to resolve a good clear out. I hate to think how many books there are on the tall bookcase next to this machine in addition to the reference ones that stay in the living room for crossword purposes. The Village Association will have a Garden Fête before long and I must get a trolley and get a lot on to the book table.
Otherwise it has to be Oxfam which is the other end of town.

Re: Re:

Good Morning!
You can say that again. Rime here. Radar reveals snow squalls close by.
Plant sellers' dream. Impatient people bought and planted the fragile ones over the week-end. New batch for sale ...

Re: Re:

a Song For Tony and his nautical adventure
Marching Inland

Lord Nelson knew the perfect way to cure your 'mal-de-mer',
So if you pay attention, his secret I will share,
To any sea-sick sailor he'd give this advice for free:
"If you're feeling sea-sick, sit underneath a tree!"

Chorus:
I'm marching inland from the shore, over m' shoulder I'm carrying an oar,
When someone asks me: "What - is that funny thing you've got?"
Then I know I'll never go to sea no more, no more,
Then I know I'll never go to sea no more!

Columbus he set-sail to find out if the world was round,
He kept on sailing to the West until he ran aground,
He thought he'd found The Indies but he'd found the U.S.A.,
I know some navigators who can still do that today.

Drake he's in his hammock and a thousand miles away,
Grenville's REVENGE is at the bottom of the bay,
Many's the famous sailor never came home from the sea,
Just take my advice, Jack, come and follow me.

Sailors take a warning from these men of high renown,
When you leave the ocean and it's time to settle down,
Never cast your anchor less than ninety miles from shore,
There'd always be temptation to be off to sea once more.

Re: Re:

smile Good mooring all ............
Thanks Den for the song, here's a short poem to reflect on wink

The Sailor's Consolation

ONE night came on a hurricane,
The sea was mountains rolling,
When Barney Buntline turned his quid,
And said to Billy Bowling:
"A strong nor-wester's blowing, Bill;
Hark! don't ye hear it roar, now?
Lord help 'em, how I pities them
Unhappy folks on shore now!

"Foolhardy chaps who live in towns,
What danger they are all in,
And now lie quaking in their beds,
For fear the roof should fall in;
Poor creatures! how they envies us,
And wishes, I've a notion,
For our good luck, in such a storm,
To be upon the ocean!

"And as for them who're out all day
On business from their houses,
And late at night are coming home,
To cheer their babes and spouses,--
While you and I, Bill, on the deck
Are comfortably lying,
My eyes! what tiles and chimney-pots
About their heads are flying!

"And very often have we heard
How men are killed and undone
By overturns of carriages,
By thieves, and fires in London;
We know what risks all landsmen run,
From noblemen to tailors;
Then, Bill, let us thank Providence
That you and I are sailors."

Charles Dibdin

Safe sailing all ........... good luck
