Re: .

Evening all

... but what was the name of the original before UD took it over? I seem to remember that the guy who was involved tried to take it over but the big boys stepped in.
So, I was talking about ten years in total. I'd seen it mentioned in the Guardian as a useful alternative to the space searching that had become popular.
So can anyone remember what the guy's name was?

Re: .

....UD did not take it over, UD started it in April 2001, IBM took it over in 2004 and UD gave it up sometime after that.

Re: .

Sorry, but there was an engine prior to UD which started in January 2000 when the University was concerned with just the cancer research. The PC Advisor web site took it up and for a while it had over a hundred members crunching. As ever, enthusiasm was relatively short lived and it dwindled down until finally absorbed and rescued the few of us left.

Anyone else been cancer crunching for 10 years that can kick my memory into action?

Re: .

I guess it's now coming up to ten years of crunching since the University started the cancer campaign. We all hope it's done some real good along the way whilst we've had the pleasure of chat and banter with like minded humans.

So the very best to all of you as we start on another decade. I hope we've made a difference although we always knew there was not going to be a great cheer to say 'cancer has now been beaten'.

Although EDF are trying to frighten me about the leccy that I use, it will continue here whilst the old machine can manage it.

I can't accurately remember that far back - must be old age, but know I have been crunching since about 2001 on various differnt projects. (If you twisted my arm I would say: Find A Drug, United Devices and WCG confused )

I just spent a short while comparing gas and electricity prices - well worth it! I have found that I can pay a lot less by swapping supplier than I can with my current supplier, so that is on my list of things to do in the coming week. It is something I do once a year or so and I would recommend it as a money saving tip. biggrin
