Evening all - and a belated Happy Birthday Evy.
I get the blood test demand from the GP at each six monthly check up and it's always the full monty so the fasting bit is obligatory' It's hardly that onerous; just have to go without breakfast really. But the waiting around it the boring bit. There were already a dozen or so ahead of me when I got to the waiting room at 8.30 for the 9 am kick off. Got back home at a quarter to ten so it was a biscuit and a glass of orange juice for breakfast. Then a quick bit of shopping which included 2 bottles of ASDA Cava so I'm with you Den - good value. I just keep the odd bottle of champers for special occasions and I don't include the May bank holiday in that category. Still, I think Sainsbury's have one of their 25% off deals when you buy at least 6 bottles of wine, so I may splash out tomorrow. |

and I think Happy Birthday Night Owl too. Hmmm a previous post disappeared.  I was going to suggest "advanced" > "preferences" and lowering the CPU usage on your laptop, so it runs cooler, see if that makes a difference. |

oh no!
after it repeatedly maimed (and so h says in the end killed) my last laptop the distributed computer thing went fine for months...and now it makes my (1 year old) laptop behave strangely again it makes a really loud noise not just when left on too long actually about a minute after I start up the BOINC application and stops about 20 seconds after I shut it down :( ideas anyone? The noise is coming from the processor fan. The BOINC program uses the idle time for processing and the processor fan kicks into high gear every time the processor usage requires active cooling. If the temperature where the laptop is being used is high, the fan runs to compensate. The noise you hear is the computer operating properly. You may want to invest in a laptop cooling pad to help with the temperature control, but it makes noise as well. Sorry for the bad news, but the repair shop will be unable to fix this problem and keep the laptop from burning out. Hope the information is helpful. |

I was going to suggest "advanced" > "preferences" and lowering the CPU usage on your laptop, so it runs cooler, see if that makes a difference. un-be-lie-va-ble! this morning I was rooting around in the menus for anything I could try and reduced it to 30%, judging from the lack of noise that seems to have done the trick yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay  and I was already so proud of having figured this out myself, not it turns out you were telephatically controlling me next challenge, try to make me do some housework from on the other side of the channel |
