It's obvious the scientists look at these stats and consider it a waste of their time and resources. Obvious in what way? Did they make a statement about no longer supporting PPC OSX, that I missed? ![]() |

okay, so indeed what I computed, 1.2% and 1/6th for CEP making it 0.2% of WCG, if CEP will reach the same level of production uptake once fully debugged.

They don't need to make a statement, it's common sense and is logical. Obviously I disagree. IMO, they are already building the apps for OSX Intel, and it's a fairly trivial thing to recompile it for PPC (which can be done on PPC or Intel HW). ![]() |

Such low figures cause problems for homogeneous redundancy classes.

zombie67, as linked in earlier, HPF2 was not ported to PPC per the System Requirements page. If it were trivial, it would have been done already.

okay, so indeed what I computed, 1.2% and 1/6th for CEP making it 0.2% of WCG, if CEP will reach the same level of production uptake once fully debugged. That math doesn't make sense. It is 1.2% of all WCG. Assuming a project is 1/6th of all of WCG makes no difference. PPC would still be 1.2% of that particular project (assuming they all offer the PPC app). Maybe we're saying the same thing. I just want to be clear. In ay case, using % is not they best way to be looking at this. (I can't tell if the host % is against total hosts, or active hosts (and who knows how "active" is measured). But that's all I have.) If the total machine population is massive, then 1% or even .1% may make it worthwhile. For example, if there are 1,000,000,000 active machines, then we would be excluding 12 million PPC machines (1.2%) by not having an app. That's an awful lot of machines to exclude, for a small amount of work. That's just a hypothetical example of course. but it makes the point. ![]() |

Such low figures cause problems for homogeneous redundancy classes. Good point. But not all projects need that. Does this one? Edit: Also, I don't think anyone explicitly answered the question yet. Will there be a PPC app for CEP? Earlier in the thread, Sekerob said "Be prepared for PPC not to get support", but what is the official plan? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by zombie67 at Feb 1, 2009 9:08:39 PM] |

Well, this runs in quorum 2, meaning bit for bit matching!
