CEP Beta: OSX PPC?

I noticed that all my Intel OSX boxes were able to get at least one Beta task, but not so for *any* of my PPC OSX boxes. Were any PPC tasks sent out? Or just Intel at this time?

Now, you got us there. Be prepared for PPC not to get support. HPF2 has not been in latest BOINC 6 compatible release either.

Re: CEP Beta: OSX PPC?

PPC is going by the wayside fast. Even the new version of OSX will not install on a PPC system. If it is a G5 I would sell it on eBay and put it towards a new Intel mac.

Last month I played around with loading Fedora Linux on one of my PPC macs. Then I installed Boinc using yum. From the entire list of projects that show up in Boinc, not one of them support PPC Linux. Not one. I tried them all. Not even SETI!

Hi brinktastee,
I think that there are unofficial SETI versions for Linux PPC. Try Google.

Re: CEP Beta: OSX PPC?

A little over 25% of the macs on WCG are PPC. As long as the development machines are still around, I see no reason not to compile the PPC app too. In fact, PPC apps can be compiled even on intel macs.

Re: CEP Beta: OSX PPC?

Can you point where you got that statistic from, zombie67?

Mac has about 450 million credit out of 9.8 billion showing on BOINCstats. If 25% of ~5% is ~1.2% and CEP is 1/6th of the projects, it gets to be a very small number to maintain compatibility for and as said, HPF2 was not ported either as a well established science.

25% of an already small number equals an even smaller number. It's obvious the scientists look at these stats and consider it a waste of their time and resources.
