applause Third Linux Beta for CEP

I've just collected 8 beta units for CEP. The expected run times of the WU's seems a bit optomistic though, All the ones I've picked up have 12h42m expected run times, but the longest running unit has now been going for 23 mins but completion time has fallen by only 6 mins. Unless they speed up further in it looks like a lot of these WU's could be returned late as the deadline is only 2 days.

Re: Third Linux Beta for CEP

I've picked up a single CEP beta on my Debian machine. Its total estimated runtime is approx 16h59min, out of which 1h49min has run so far. However, if this estimate is correct it will miss its deadline by 4 hours or so..

One other machine has already returned an error, with the third machine also working this WU is still "in progress".

Edit: Dividing "current CPU time" by "fraction done" already gives a smaller total estimate. With 14.8125% done it's down to 15h3min. If this rate of improvement over the original estimate continues, and the WU doesn't error out, my machine might just make it before the deadline.

Re: Third Linux Beta for CEP

Remember that deadlines are set short on Beta units in order to force the scheduler to run them quickly. Deadlines on Beta units have no other purpose.

Re: Third Linux Beta for CEP

Please remember to let your BETA work units run to the end. Even past the deadline date. Late work units still test some of our scripts on our end as well as the results are still used and sent back to researchers for validation. If there is a problem that occurs with the BETA work units we will post something in the forums.

Thank you again for your patience and support!

Re: Third Linux Beta for CEP

Not to worry, my Debian machine has been crunching 24/7 since I signed up. (Except for a couple of power outages and a brief offline period during the holidays). I've never aborted a single WU, and I certainly won't start now. I'm just a bit excited as this is my first Beta WU and I've been waiting eagerly for CEP for Linux.

Edit: And yeah, I'm now at 59.1875% and should just about make the deadline.

Re: Third Linux Beta for CEP

I understood the need well for finishing the wu.
I picked up 2 wu,1 of them on ubuntu 32bits and the second on a 64bits. They turn all the 2 in 32bits.

J'ai bien compris la nécessité de terminer les wu.
J'en ai récupéré 2, 1 sur ubuntu 32bits et le second sur un 64bits. Ils tournent tout les 2 en 32bits.

Bye, Alain.

Re: Third Linux Beta for CEP

Well the good news is that after a few hours of crunching they have levelled off with ETA's of 14-16hrs. The first 4 are around 75% complete and no errors so far (touches wood). So if they all run for those times I should have them all back by around 4am tomorrow. cool

Re: Third Linux Beta for CEP

I was also lucky and collected a few BETAs. Right now, three of them have completed successfully in ~12h30m, while one of them has errored with the following message from BOINC:

The Beta WU has finished crunching and was returned 26 minutes after the deadline. It's still listed as Pending Validation, though..
(My reason for posting being so that others who might have just received their first Beta WUs can se their behaviour).
