RT,
----------------------------------------i'm shure you posted it, but i can't find it. Are you using the 32- or the 64bit client? With Vista 64 and the 32bit-client, all WUs went fine, with the 64-client on the same OS i also get lots of errors in this project. I meant the boinc client version. I ran the 32bit-Version from WCG before, and had no errors. Since a few days i use the 64bit from the boinc homepage, and get errors since then.
Remember this? (and recommend by WCG)? Unfortunately there is no 64 bit WCG approved version, you will need to go directly to BOINC to get a 64 bit version. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php I am currently running 6.6.36 and am not having any problems. I am only crunching WCG so can not say if there are scheduling problems/ issues if you are crunching multiple projects. |

Looking back over this thread with interest, it seems that Boinc version 5.10.45 is the way to go for those wanting to crunch HPFII.
----------------------------------------I managed to hack the download link to obtain 5.10.45 64bit Boinc as per the advice, in preperation for the new PC, but is there any news on how 5.10.45 performs under Windows 7 with HPFII?? Does HPFII still error out under Vista/Win7 what about those with 32bit OS's? Is it a 1 size fits all fix for this problem with HPFII erroring out? Is 123bob's EL_M3 still running fine under 5.10.45? ![]() ![]() |

RT, i'm shure you posted it, but i can't find it. Are you using the 32- or the 64bit client? With Vista 64 and the 32bit-client, all WUs went fine, with the 64-client on the same OS i also get lots of errors in this project. I did not know there was a 64bit BOINC and a 32bit BOINC. I was/am just running the default client that it sets up when I download it. So, I am supposing that they are 64bit. To answer the other question, I see no difference between Vista and Win7(64bit I7-920) relative to this. Both fail jobs regularly. As of now, only my 32 bit machines are running HPF2. The 64 bit machines are running Rice. I have sort of lost interest in this problem since the developers apparently do not care. Regards all. ![]() Edit> Clarification. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Oct 2, 2009 11:48:47 PM] |

Hi RT,
----------------------------------------WCG only has 32bit Boinc to download (afaik they don't support 64bit yet), but 64bit is available to download from Berkeley. Any version is available to download, just need to change the version on the download link. http://boincdl3.ssl.berkeley.edu/mirror/boinc_5.10.45_windows_x86_64.exe If your interested in giving it a go, to see if it works for you as well as it seemed to work for 123Bob, the link above should get it for you. I don't know if it works as well as it seems, I'm just trying to find a work around before I order my I7, but have downloaded it, just incase it is the work around needed to stop the errors. ![]() ![]() |

OK. Out of curiousity, I downloaded version 6.6.38-64bit from Berkley. I have about half a day of rice running but should know if it helps or not today.
----------------------------------------Everyone have a great day. ![]() EDIT => Hey gang. The jury is still out on the HPF2 testing but I ran 22 of the current work units without issue using Vista Ultimate 64 along with BOINC 6.6.38 (64bit) on my Core2Quad 9450. I wonder if there is another batch of work units that will fail though ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Oct 9, 2009 9:53:20 PM] |

That sounds like possible good news, please keep us updated as to how it performs over a longer period of time.

Several people have reported an upload bug with 6.6.38 when there are zero byte length result files, so be warned if you encounter such an issue. This version also has an hibernation resume issue. Does not resume until you take the run state of BOINC out of suspend. This version created because 6.6.36 gave other upload issues at some other projects.
----------------------------------------There's more. If you wish to learn, visit the Berkeley developers forum. In amongst, there were other reasons why WCG skipped and is currently testing and keeping close track on 6.10 development. We have a 6.10 alpha thread to post things encountered in the BOINC Support forum.

I hope that I do not have these issues: I don't hibernate and have not had an upload issue yet--I have always-on DSL set to let BOINC use it at any time so if it has to do with delay connect or whatever.... I just downloaded the 6.6.38 version on my Windows 7 I7-920 and 48 HPF2 WUs. I will keep a close eye on it. Thanks for the Info Sekerob EDIT> Update. All thse work units ran succesfully. They however did not upload automatically and I had 10-15 stuck "uploading" when I looked at this I7 machine this morning. I messed with it a bit and got them to upload and more downloaded. I will keep running HPF2 for a few days on that machine and see what happens. In the meantime I will be checking Berkley for a newer version that the 6.6.38 Regards All ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Oct 15, 2009 3:02:56 PM] |
