Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Well I would rather Vista go. I wanted XP 64-bit, but needed the OEM pricing for the OS when I bought the core system build components and that store was not selling OEM XP 64-bit. I figured Vista would be good enough since I ONLY intended this to run WCG and the occasional personal stuff.

Darn!!! crying

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

I will be starting a run tomorrow morning of HPFII with BOINC 6.6.20 alpha and Vista 64 Ultimate. I will post back with results of the results status. I don't know if it is relevant or not but I turned UAC off yesterday ... Sekerob seems to be getting all Valid returns ... do you have this turned on or off?

Just having a scene flashing past from TaxiDriver, with Robert de N. ;>). No UAC is on, Windows Defender is on, but the cheese cake Vista Firewall is off. My router does an immense better job with it's build in features, and just 1 to configure and not every PC.

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Well ... not good ... I was at work and got 52 Errors all at .01 or .02 hrs.(thankfully not any of the 2 hr failures) and 1 Valid.

Windows Ultimate 64
UAC: OFF
Windows FW: OFF
Windows Defender: never installed
NIS 2009: ON w/ BOINC folder exemption from scanning.
BOINC 6.6.20

I guess my old P4 (XP) will have to earn my gold and then shoot for the 1 year. I will keep an eye on this post in case there are any breakthroughs :-)

Edit: I thought I would just let the other HPFII in my cache run out ... I now have 4V, 6 PV, and 5 running that have already passed the .02 processing point so I am pretty confidant they will not error out.

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Seen one report now in another WCG project (HCC forum) saying the Windows 7 RC1, 64 bit client 6.6.28 trashes the HPF2 jobs, where previously on Vista it did not. The cause remains obscure, and just to be sure tested a few tasks with 6.6.31 (test set up) and my Vista SP1 quad continues to deliver good results for HPF2.

Hopefully soon WCG will be able to monitor these devices and stop sending these specific balking projects to the devices that are offended by their presence. That is except for the periodic single task to test if the problem persists.

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

3.5 months later I'm testing the Alpha, ALPHA 6.10.6 and pulled a folding job. It successfully passed the 10 minute mark, so think it's save to assume my particular Vista 32 / Q6600 combo is still good.

knreed posted last week in an project level export thread that he's going to work [Q1-2010 earliest] on some additions to the system allowing automatic filtering of constantly failing sciences on machines that do borg these frequently.

shock Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Lets see...I started this thread on December 10 of last year.

Would someone email me or post over at MyOnlineTeam thread if this ever gets fixed?

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

RT, reports are found going all the way back to when I started posting at these forums, when version BOINC 5.4.11, the minimum required ran on XP and saw them inexplicably fail. Bad Kharma and something in Bill's windows, which is not a candle. ;o)

Sorry, or switch to an OS not from Seattle.

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Sure, I am going to shut down running the most popular operating system on the planet, buy something new, install it, and learn it, buy new copies of all my website development, graphics, email, backup, Office, etc. etc. software just so I can run this project.

What color is the sky on your planet?
