Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Thx Sek and sunnyboy. Now we know all of Vista (32 or 64 bit) is part of the problem.

Here's more detail on the rigs I'm running.

El-Machino-2 - QX6700 running at 2.75 gig, XP 32bit Pro, eVGA 680i Mobo, 2 gig RAM, Running an expired McAfee AV, Win Firewall on, running version 6.4.5 BOINC, Only have HPF2 WUs in queue. Runs clean on HPF2

El-Machino-3 - Q6600 running at 3 gig, Vista Ultimate 64 bit, MSI P45 Neo-F mobo, 4 gig RAM, No AV running, Win Firewall off, Defender off, running 6.4.5 BOINC, Only have HPF2 WUs in queue. Has errors reported above on HPF2

El-Machino-4 - Dual X5492s running at stock 3.4 gig, Vista Ultimate 64 bit, Super Micro X7DWA-N-O mobo, 8 gig FB-DIMM RAM, No AV running, Win Firewall on, Defender on, running 6.4.5 BOINC, For WCG I have only HPF2 WUs in queue. I also run GPUGrid on this machine using one core and a GTX260-216 video card. Has errors reported above on HPF2

Sek, I will also try backing down to BOINC version 5.10.45 on El-M-3. We'll see how that runs. If I can get that running, I'll try moving the version up to see where it starts failing. This will take a few days to be sure.....

Regards,
Bob

EDIT: I now have El-M-3 running version 5.10.45. We'll see how it goes....

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

OK, Sek, I think you're on to something. After about 8 hours runtime, I have three full pages of errors from El_Machino-4, and zero from El-Machino-3. The errors from El-M-4 are the typical..;

Result Log

<core_client_version>6.4.5</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
Incorrect function. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
ERROR:: Exit at: .\dock_structure.cc line:401

</stderr_txt>

]]>

I have 6.2.19 - 64 bit to use for my next step in a couple of days. does anyone have something in between 5.10.45 and 6.2.19 - 64 bit? Also between 6.2.19 and 6.4.5 - 64 bit? Please point me to an upload, or let's work out how I can get it for testing this issue.

Thx,
Bob

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Interesting, is this the 32 bit or 64 bit client of 5.10.45 on macho 3?

Old client versions, any version can be obtained by hacking the download address. A full list is obtained by removing anything after ../dl/

Sek, 64 bit version of 5.10.45 Thx for the tip on the "in between" versions. I'll try it.

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

I have some of the same problems as Bob 123.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, whit an quad phenom 2 and the 6.2 version of boinc, got it 2 weeks a go from the main site.

About half of the HPF2 tasks fail on me. They all fail after 0.1 or 0.2 houre. So i'am not losing much time, but it's stil a wast of resources. Not only for me, but also for the wcg.

I'm wondering if there is already a solution.

Thanks,

Joris

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

There was a Beta some time ago to solve a rare bug found through the reports of members on the forums. Unfortunately that Beta did not fix this and the this Vista concentrated bug bugs, so still looking for that Eureka as to what makes it tick for some Vista users, but not for others.

Trying to run BOINC in XP compatibility mode on Vista was a test I thought off just now.

shock Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

A spark of optimism for those suffering the ... line:401 or similar on Vista with HPF2. It's not the science... it's the client or the versions of libraries it came with. Now successfully ran 8 HPF2, 2x4 concurrently and started and suspended another 4 before to see if they would reach past the first few minutes... they did making it 12 sequentially not crashing at 1 minute 6 seconds or so.

That same beta release now also runs RICE successfully on a XP client which I could not previously get it to run with any previous to 6 client, till the last 2 point releases.

I'll write up the recipe what made it to work for me, which included complete loss of all data and project files... so know what you could get into when installing!

cheers

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Well, as far as HPF2 on Vista 32 bit quad (and RICE XP Duo), it's gold. Not a single error or invalid, it's processing at 100% score. The HPF2 tally and at that much healthier credits than before... might we actually get a real stable 6.x client ;?

Re: Issue with HPFII on 64bit Quads running 64bit Vista.

Sek, does this mean you have a solution? Is it a version 6 client?

Give me the recipe, if you have one. I'd love to see this fly on 64 bit Vista.

Thx,
Bob
