Okay, the sequence this happened to start working:
----------------------------------------- 6.6.10 installed in protected mode, unpriveleged - loosing absolutely everything, except the WCG skin. - uninstalled 6.6.10 and reinstalled in hopes of finding data... gone permanently - reinstalled 6.6.10 - download mix of WCG work and carefully started 1 HPF2 at the time, running , watching and controlling the number of concurrent hpf2 jobs, all the way to 4 concurrently. - upgraded to 6.6.11, no losses, and let it run hpf2 only - fetched work from some other heavy duty projects and run concurrently... still 100% score (list updated above) - The XP machine that never managed RICE on 6.2.28 now happily does them with 6.6.10 and does HPF2 fine as well. The benchmarks are virtually identical (BOINC.exe I've got automatically set to hi-prio for stable result), thus it is good to see the HPF2 certainly, subjectively running faster, and getting credit close to claim or better, see list above. Prior it was most always 5-10% less than claim. The client should not have effect on the processing, but here it seemingly somehow impeded. Notably the BOINC internal RPC comms were changed substantially also given a more responsive remote controlling experience. good luck (and changed nothing at all on the security software front from past settings) Added 3.3.2009: Check the "Write the disk at most xx seconds". Is it default 60 seconds?

Thanks Sek. I'll give 6.6.11 a try on one of my problem rigs and report back in a couple of days.

Ok I am a little new here at the World Community been running tasks for a about a week now.
----------------------------------------This maybe nothing or it may help others just thought to chime in on an experience I had. To let you know I am running beta test windows 7 64Bit ultimate on a Q6600 with a Intel Badax board. This may also happen on Vista 64bit since Win 7 platform is based on Vista. When I first installed 6.2.28 Bioinc manager I installed it to run in services I am running tasks for hpf2 and hcc1. It worked perfectly no errors on the manager I ran it that way for oh, two days. It was running in services in Auto mode I decided to change the mode in services to run Automatic with (Delay Start) don't ask why remember I beta test things to see what happens lol. I think I saw on the forums where some suggested running in delay start in Vista so decided to try that in windows 7. Well I turned on my box and from the get go I was getting a slew of errors in my task bar that Bioinc manager was failing tasks 3 fail error messages to 1 running fine. It seemed to do this every time new tasks where started, odd to say the least. I reset Bioinc in services panel back to Automatic (no delay) and poof not a single error and all task running flawless since 3 days ago. Sorry for the long post but thought to try to be as thorough as possible. I am averaging 5.14 results per day no fail errors and 100% valid results so far and I turn my PC off at night through the work week and run 24/7 when I am off. Sorry to read about the still missing bullet, Bob. Just now pulled up a couple after several more boots, power outs, altering BOINC prefs, keeping notes, but, HPF2 keeps running without fail.
----------------------------------------Don't know if you followed the sequence, including uninstalling to make sure no legacy stuff is there, a true clean data dir, but it must be something duh. Tried XP compatibility mode, unprotected, 32 bit? Mind you, RICE started balking again on my xp laptop, with the same (0x01) error, yet all other WCG projects including HPF2 continue to run 100%. Oh, in my PV I added again the explicit exclusion of monitoring 127.0.0.1 and port 31416, but that should not effect the core client + science as they run in shared memory. RPC? I wonder how that funks in. Riddle... something with timing, but what?

I am currently running boincsimap, climateprediction.net, Cosmology@Home, Einstein@Home, lhcathome and World Community Grid but I have excluded Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2.
There are some minor issues with download errors with Cosmology@Home but Proteome Folding - Phase 2 fails most of the time so I have stop running that for now. Everything else works just fine. My computer is configured as follow CPU type GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz [Intel64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11] Number of CPUs 4 Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium x64 Editon, Service Pack 1, (06.00.6001.00) Memory 4094.18 MB Cache 244.14 KB Swap space 8361.64 MB Total disk space 10.74 GB Free Disk Space 9.69 GB Measured floating point speed 3284.86 million ops/sec Measured integer speed 10341.48 million ops/sec Average upload rate 23.35 KB/sec Average download rate 319.76 KB/sec |

I just built an i7 and got it crunching today ... Vista Ult 64, HT, no OC. The very first WU was HPFII and it failed before all the other WUs for its 3 day queue finished downloading
---------------------------------------- . I know you have all been working very hard with the relaunch of CEP, new HFCC, MDII on the way shortly (major kudos for coordinating and executing these projects ) along with everything else I don't know about. I think with an estimate of almost 3 years left to crunch HPFII that this bug will start to effect results as more people start running Vista/ Win7.{edited for clarity} [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 14, 2009 11:49:17 PM] |

A fail-fast bug isn't much of a problem. The task goes to someone else, little time is lost.
The techs want to add a feature that automatically detects computers that can't handle a particular type of task, and avoid sending them in that situation. |

If the failiur is related to PC's running Vista and more and more people start running Vista, as Snow Crash pointed out, it will be a problem. The techs want to add a feature that automatically detects computers that can't handle a particular type of task, and avoid sending them in that situation. Applaud the effort,= But I also agree with Simplex0 and Snow Crash. If this project is going to run for 3 more years the fact that it has a hard time running on vista (and assumable win7?) is quite a problem. The project will just keep getting slower and slower as people update and take longer and longer. If a fix could be found much more of these WUs could be processed much faster as many high end machines (note: not all) run Vista. If that were the case it might not take 3 years to finish. I know if the errors stopped I would be running HPF2 on my quad, but that just isnt the case. If there is anything we WCGers can try to do to help, let us know!
