Well, talk about deja vu. Seems like this comes up with almost every new project. In time, the techs have done whatever they've done and each project gets settled down into something folks see as reasonable. I would expect we'll see that same with this one in time. As for other projects, yes, CPDN is the Godzilla of projects. I have one there that's projected to take 950 hours. At least I have until May of 2010 to complete it!
---------------------------------------- I know other projects that take less than an hour to complete WU's. CEP will settle into something reasonable once the techs have enough info to sort out how.EDIT: Just to avoid any confusion, I'm NOT saying don't bother posting here about completion times. Just the opposite - definitely do that but do so knowing that this has come up with past projects and got addressed in time and it should with this project as well. The techs need the feedback but it's not an exercise in futility either. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by keithhenry at Dec 15, 2008 3:53:32 AM] |

Hi
----------------------------------------My completion times are huge as well with last 4 units. Look at print screen image It seems that this 4 WUs will never finish. Specs: Intel Q9550, 4 gig ram, win xp pro sp2 Using all 4 cores between 70 and 100% of CPU time. RAM is set to 50% and disk to 10 gigs Usually I need 4-6 hrs per WU for other projects, and previously crunched CEP WUs finished within 10hrs or less I do hope that those 4 WUs will be accepted without errors, I wouldn't want to have almost six days of work wasted. I think I might back-off this project until they sort out the run times and page fault issues.....was this project 'rushed' without adequate testing?

Long runtimes, alone, aren't actually a problem. World Community Grid infinitely prefer more predictable work unit sizes, but these aren't impossibly big.
The pagefaults are a disappointment. They didn't show up in the beta work units that I examined closely. |

.....was this project 'rushed' without adequate testing? It's a fact that The Clean Energy Project came into production, where we were halfway Beta Testing. I never had that experience in my 30 years IT-lifetime, that a system goes into production during the acceptance test. Nevertheless I suppose that the results during this startup-struggles are usefull. |

As Didactylos said, the beta's looked all fine, long and short and had 20 of them, regrettably few on Vista. It's not entirely new, here, to have production start before all beta results returned. All depends on the error rate. Don't think it would have come out anyway... but maybe beta testing should have a more "designed" program asking members to try various combinations stead of just running to see if validating or failing.

The long ones are most definitely still around.
----------------------------------------Right now I'm working on a WU that is claiming it will take 55 hrs and another that'll take 29 hrs on my Q9550 with 8 GB memory under Vista x64 SP1. I have some WU that haven't started yet and they are claiming they'll take 81 hrs. This is almost comical. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Kaiden at Dec 16, 2008 8:41:52 AM] |
