Re: Completion Times

No, each project has it's own rDCF, but we wished each WCG sub-project would have one with emphasis on wished. Not seeing that coming in my BOINC lifetime.

It does impact the amount of work correctly or incorrectly cached for the sum of the projects.

Re: Completion Times

being that i have turned in a few of these multi day units

i would love it if you can get the times down closer to 12 hours

24-60 hour work units are just too long for me to be comfortable with... main reason i left Climate prediction

happy crunching....

Re: Completion Times

I'm having this problem with a task from batch 16, and I think it's having an effect on expected completion time:

15/12/2008 08:08:55 AM|World Community Grid|Task E000016_650A_00024j00o_0 exited with a DLL initialization error.
15/12/2008 08:08:55 AM|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reboot your computer.

15/12/2008 08:37:53 AM|World Community Grid|Task E000016_650A_00024j00o_0 exited with a DLL initialization error.
15/12/2008 08:37:53 AM|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reboot your computer.

...ad infinitum.

Rebooting doesn't make any difference. Three hours ago the estimated completion time was 12:10; it is now 12:00.

I'm using the 5.10.45 client on a C2Q Q6600, running XP Pro.

Should I continue with this task or abort it?

Re: Completion Times

I had the same problem in one of the earlier batches. It was estimated to 15 hours and stood still on 15 hours for atleast 30 hours, if I.m not remember wrong. The Wu used around 50 hours to finish. But it went okey and valid.... So just let it work is my suggestion

Re: Completion Times

hmmm, suggest some system/OS diagnostics.

Search for string "exited with a DLL initialization error", with quotation marks to find prior discussions

Re: Completion Times

Hmm, I've had a look but nothing obvious springs to mind. The computer is a desktop PC with no overclocking or power management. I am running the BOINC client as a daemon, so no graphics.

I have completed other CEP tasks (and tasks from other WCG projects) without any problems.

I notice that the task keeps looping back to the last checkpoint, so that this kind of thing happens:

CPU time Progress
21:25:19 58.375%
21:28:24 58.5%
21:33:30 58.718%
21:32:37 58.625%
21:24:14 58.281%
21.34.27 58.718%
21.08.52 57.656%

I don't think it's going to get anywhere at all, and I suspect that putting it out of its misery might be the only option.

Re: Completion Times

if that dosnt work you might have to put it out of its misery

Re: Completion Times

Yep, the reboot was the first thing I tried. It's just looped back to the 57.656% mark again, so I'll give it another half an hour and kill it if there's no change.

Re: Completion Times

once the stats page is up (in about 30 min) i would recomend going to it and selecting your jobs and check those work units for there companion.. see if it has reported back yet or if its still in limbo.. if it has reported back check the time and compair..

thats about all i can sugest and since the stats should be back up before your half an hour is up or close to it .. it shouldnt loose ya too much extra time to check..

Re: Completion Times

The other computer returned a result on 13th Dec, with a CPU time of 42.12 hours.

E000016_ 650A_ 00024j00o_ 1-- Pending Validation 12/10/08 16:56:35 12/13/08 02:15:15 42.12 454.6 / 0.0

The highest it'll go on my system is around 21:34 before it loops back to 21:07.

In contrast, my batch 17 job is making steady progress and will finish with a CPU time of 42 hours.
