I installed V6.2.25 today. I used advanced installation to install as service (5.10.45 was also a service installation).
The migration was smooth but required a reboot of my machine. After reboot I first got the message: BOINC can't access Internet - check network connection or proxy configuration. So I checked the HTTP-Proxy configuration. It looked OK but I confirmed it anyway. After that the "Update Project" worked as expected. We would appreciate it if members who have had to <force_auth> in the cc_config.xml could try the new version and remove the <force_auth> tag from their cc_config.xml file. Please let us know if it properly identified the type of proxy and ran correctly without this tag. After the above actions I wanted to remove the <force_auth>ntlm</force_auth> tag from my cc_config.xml, but discovered that it wasn't there anymore. It must have been removed by either the installation routine or by confirming of the Proxy config. Proxy identification works as expected in my configuration. Greetings Thorsten |

tluehr,
Did you set up your data directory previously to be somewhere other than the default location? There have been a couple of reports of the cc_config.xml file being replaced during installation but I haven't been able to reproduce. I'm very glad to hear though that the ntlm proxy identification worked correctly without requiring you to modify the cc_config.xml file to use the <force_auth> tag. thanks, Kevin |

Did you set up your data directory previously to be somewhere other than the default location? No, it was at the default location C:\Program Files\Boinc I forgot to mention that I am using XPpro/32. The cc_config.xml definately was replaced, because my log_flag <checkpoint_debug> was also gone. <checkpoint_debug> and <force_auth> were the only modifications I had in my cc_config.xml. Greetings Thorsten |

WCG is quite conservative is making sure the user gets the resource needed when using the computer. This is defined with profile preference pre-sets of which there are 4 + a "Custom". Please visit, after the momentary statistics update your My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile to see the associated profile with your computer and change if need be to one of your choice described in this FAQ:
----------------------------------------Website Device Profile & Local Preferences Information Rev. Aug 1, 2008 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17033 Make sure to force a communication between the server and the client for the changes to take effect and look in the message log near the beginning as to which of the 4 standard device profiles is associated (default/home/school/work), as that is the one that would have to be changed. cheers

I installed 6.2.25 today after setting "No new tasks" and finishing up in-process tasks on the old version. I manually uninstalled the old version, then installed 6.2.25. It did not "install as a service by default" or create any id's, it appears to be running in the same manner as the previous version. It "remembered" that I had set "no new tasks" so I re-enabled and it downloaded a new task without any problems. Currently crunching without any issues in WinXP Pro SP3.

I upgraded from 6.2.19 the day the request was posted on a XP Pro SP3 32bot on a Core2Quad Q6600 and 3.5 GB of RAM(4 physical) and have seen no problems whatsoever. :)

This works soooooo much better than 5.10.45 on Windows Vista for me (which used to hang and spawn lots of error windows). Thanks so much for your efforts.

I installed 6.2.25 today after setting "No new tasks" and finishing up in-process tasks on the old version. I manually uninstalled the old version, then installed 6.2.25. We have no problem with that, gretchch, so please don't take what follows as a negative comment for you. However, this Windows installer is meant to be run without taking any particular precaution**, even when upgrading from a 5.xx version and/or when going from a normal user installation to a service installation. No need to empty the task list, no need to uninstall, you can even launch the installer without stopping Boinc. The installer will take care of everything after first stopping Boinc if necessary. ** With this 6.2.25 beta version there are a few cases where the cc_config.xml file (where you can ask for logging the checkpoints in the message list) can be lost. So if you have a very personalized cc_config.xml file that could be worth saving a copy of it. The next version 6.2.26 is supposed to have fixed this problem. Also if you have tasks in "Ready to report" status it could make sense to force an Update from the project tab to make sure you won't lose completed tasks in case any WU would get lost (which has never been reported yet since we are testing this WCG installer). Cheers. Jean. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Nov 6, 2008 1:31:46 AM] |
