Boinc Client V6.2.25 creates 2 user accounts 'boinc_master' and 'boinc_project'
I would like to know where each account is used, and how I can change the passwords for these accounts to keep them under MY control. I saw that the BOINC service is running under 'boinc_master' account. Is this the only place where boinc_master's password is used? Or do I have to enter the password at more places when I change the password? At what about boinc_project's password? Where is it used? What happens when I change the account's password? Greetings Thorsten |

hmmm I saw an article how to change and where it but you need a hasher. Getting it wrong will prevent the client to connect.

I do have one question. How are you going to choose more secure passwords than those generated randomly by the installer?
If you are administrator, you already have full control over the accounts. You don't need to change the passwords for that. |

How are you going to choose more secure passwords than those generated randomly by the installer? If it is chosen randomly, that is fine. I didn't have the time to analyze the source code of the installer to find that out. Could also be a fixed default password and in that case I would prefer to set my own passwords, even if the account is very restricted like 'boinc_manager' and 'boinc_project' are. Call it paranoia If you are administrator, you already have full control over the accounts. You don't need to change the passwords for that. When I suspect that someone or something compromized account passwords on the machine, one of the first actions would be to change the passwords. Greetings Thorsten |
