geoffrey_philip,
----------------------------------------Thank you for editing that post. I'm happy that a "good christian" like yourself would revisit that statement. Or not...Guess they edited it for you. [Edit 4 times, last edit by Former Member at May 19, 2008 1:16:57 AM] |

***********You are talking about a fellow cruncher. Have you ever though about "there but for the grace of God go I"?, whatever your religious standpoint.
----------------------------------------Please have a go at people that don't crunch; not those that do. @loonym: I wish you all the best. **Edited for intolerance** [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at May 19, 2008 9:18:46 PM] |

Perhaps a toggle could be added in the 'My projects" area that turns off the auto opt-in for all new projects. This would allow those that are passionate about their individual interests and projects the opportunity to only crunch their project(s) and not worry about new units showing up.

I confess that, although I understand the motivation for wanting all members to process all projects, I do not support the policy of auto-joining all members to all projects. The member has the control of whether or not to run all projects in the profile - this should be the mechanism.

there are so many problems with this thread by now that i think it should be closed.
----------------------------------------if someone wants to discuss his health he can go to caring/sharing. if someone wants to discuss auto-opting he can go to suggestions/feedback. and if someone just wants to come in here and spit on the rice project compared to other possible projects, he is surely too late and it seems really inappropriate. that also is a matter of feedback. it is getting very repetitious. i favor a lock at this point. Cheers, Gary Have seen several posts by the administration here and elsewhere to confirm that a solution will be in place by time of the next project launch. Horse is dead and buried. It's time to move on. As for the Nite Owl chap, yes we see POEM very frequently mentioned on the WCG forums. That project is not actually searching for specific solutions, rather fundamental folding science like Rosetta and quite a few more do including WCG's own Human Proteome Folding 2. Nothing wrong with that, has to be done too. Many though like to go after real things like AIDS, Cancer, Dengue, Rice type improvements to counter hunger, the tangible and see past personal differences. Anyone who wants to see sheep will see sheep. I've not seen them yet and nobody has voted anyone to qualify any volunteer on the WCG projects to be equated to sheep. It's an insult. The auto-opt in policy never changed and now it will be. I just have this nagging thing in the back of my head regarding those who were auto-opted into Help Defeat Cancer and Help Conquer Cancer. They were probably quick to manually select it before the script could be run and were never heard off on this topic and standing up for 'voluntary' choice. If there were when those projects launched, it was very few and far between. @loonym, I'm terribly sorry for your pain and outlook. Words will never express the feelings for those that have been struck by this evil. If the almighty has the power, let it be wielded equal to all. |

So many comments to make on this, where to start. THis thread could have gone to Caring and sharing yes, and it also could have gone to Suggestions/Feedback also but what we saw here in loonym's post was a frustration at having his machines moved into a project that he didn't choose and with his life situation this hit him harder than it would you or I. When you take the time to "walk in his shoes" you understand, or at least try to understand his feelings of frustration when he saw those changes made without his permission. I should add that you(sic) should understand that if you have any human compassion. Next, spitting on the rice project: No one's doing that at all. The rice project has good goals IMO. Very worthwhile but takes a back seat if your dealing with cancer on a personal level and that should be the case. My interest is in finding a cure for AIDS but after rereading loonyn's comments I've changed my default profile to just download the cancer WU as a way to show him my support and understanding of the heck he is going through. As to repetitious, maybe, but then again all your comments(more than one) are repetitious also so it's a case of the "pot calling the kettle black" if you remember that old line. Edited for inappropriate language...CIH ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at May 20, 2008 11:50:39 AM] |

2 Administration There is an easy-to-implement rule that probably can help in situations with opt-in: auto opt-in should be done only if more then 1 project was selected to crunch and "receive work from other projects" is checked in.
----------------------------------------In such way guys who want to concentrate on some specific project won't be offended and no new viewable options are needed for the user. [Edit 1 times, last edit by DmitrIO at May 19, 2008 8:17:36 PM] |
