Re: A complaint

It is evident that my complaints and viewpoints are falling on deaf ears.

If the same new project rollout procedure is used the next time, WCG will have seen the last of my machine time.

DDTUNG cool
Promise?

They're somewhat busy now working on a couple of beta runs. They don't have to worry about the next project opt-in until the next project.

I too was disappointed to see this comment - flaming by CA's sets a poor example to the membership and makes it more difficult to then request others to refrain from acting similarly in the future.

Re: A complaint

My two cents.

Just by looking at how many people read the forum messages, you can reasonably assume that most volunteers just set WCG and then forget it. If we had an "op-in" box to check, would that box be checked by default?

If it was not checked by default I would believe that new projects would not see the throughput that "older" projects receive. If the box was not checked by default, this would appease many of the people, if I read the thread correctly, who have an issue with the current system of doing things.

If the "Opt-in" box was checked by default, users would have to uncheck it manually and WCG would receive the same complaints from people who only want to run certain projects. ( Which is certainly in their right as volunteers)

I think though, since the majority of users are of the "set it and forget it" flavor, that the "opt-in" box should be checked by default and that the burden of unchecking it be left to the individual user. It seems that the volunteer that is interested in one or two projects is more likely to read a forum message or an e-mail and take action that is appropriate to his/her situation.

Also, someone mentioned a vote earlier and said it should be proportional to the amount of work they contribute. I find that to be a bit elitist. If things need to be voted on, it should be, in my opinion only, one vote per user.

Re: A complaint

This should cover everyone.

I'm sorry that so many XS members were enthusiastic about the rice project and checked it so early, even before being opted in. The script ran later.

I'm sorry that some XS team members even unchecked the other projects to run the rice project exclusively.

I'm sorry that the early versions started getting errors.

I'm sorry that XS had to take the time to abort their workunits.

I'm sorry that the errored workunits were misconstrued as an opt-in problem.

I'm sorry that DDTung had to take extra time to delete errored workunits at work.

I'm sorry that others thought that this was merely an opt-in problem.

I'm sorry for the filthy language we had to read from at least one visible person and one invisible person.

I'm sorry for the others that actually don't want to be opted-in.

Re: A complaint

Sarcasm rather than an apology - would probably have been better to not say anything at all to be honest as all it will do is fan the flames further.

Now on a scale of 1-10 how do you rate the sincerity of those apologies?

Re: A complaint

Gentlemen:
At this point all has been said that needs to be said for the people at WCG to make a educated decision so please, lets not get into a arguement over this.
Drama isn't needed and only sidetracks the issue.
Thanks

Re: A complaint

BTW I believe the horrid filthy language I used was the term ****. Oh how naughty of me or maybe you were only trying to manipulate others into thinking it was something much worse?

I'm sorry for the filthy language we had to read from at least one visible person and one invisible person
