Re: New FAAH assignment taking a long time

The workunits will run fine - our scripts to produce the workunits originally generated these workunits with a duration of 1-2 hours. We have apparently resized them too high. Just let them run and they will complete correctly. We will work on getting the sizing back to 8 hours.

This is a function of workunits - not a function of the new application version.

Re: New FAAH assignment taking a long time

For those who like a refresher on the stopping and starting with least loss of computing time on resume, please visit the Checkpoint Save FAQ in the Start Here forum. This FAQ explains it for all WCG sciences.

For the FA@H project I've updated the image and added some verbiage. Simplest is either to watch a checkpoint recording in the BOINC message log (see the FAQ for the "How To"), or when the green line has jumped back to the beginning of the graph. That indicates the start of a new segment at which time it is save to exit the agent or execute the computer shutdown procedure.

As per knreed: Please let it run. They are equally longer for everyone!

thanks

Re: New FAAH assignment taking a long time

13 hours + on most computers here.

My fastest computer (AMD X2 3.45GHz) is showing a FAAH with 11.5 hours so far at 6.6% with 18.5 hours remaining. The machine was rebooted recently, and the workunit does not appear to be stuck as the percentage is slowly incrementing. Graphics is displaying correctly.

The FAAH workunit in the other partition looks more typical: 2.5 hours elapsed at 28% with 6.5 hours remaining.

A slower AMD 2.4GHz has one with 3.5 hours at 24% with 10.5 hours remaining.

There's no "back" to come back from ... just turned off FAAH

That's lot of projects ... only one with RAC? biggrin

Re: New FAAH assignment taking a long time

I only ran one workunit from some. Perhaps there weren't any RACworthy results to be found in them. crying The UH second computing workunits are tiny ... less than 30 seconds each. I ran a few and got half-a-rac for only 6 credit points. Who'da figgered? biggrin

There are some more projects that refuse to run or are gone, plus some others that no longer connect or won't allow a logon to change e-mail to the new one.

I fired up everything for a workunit in December and may do that again each year. It took a couple of months to run one of the Climate thingys. A few, including that one, have some amazing graphics. Some have minimal, and most have none.

Yes, the new FAAH is a killer. They'll run, but take at least 1/2 day per workunit. I queued up some HCC until I see what the new DDD-T looks like.

I agree. At least there is always work here and at POEM. Lattice, hydrogen & SIMAP are currently out of work. Some are wicked long ... the first Einstein wu I received was 88 hours long on a Q6600 laughing I thought it would never end. I have not tried climatecontrol ... thanks for the tip. wink

Re: New FAAH assignment taking a long time

They are very LONG. Climate due date could be a year and a half out, depending on the project.

They do a daily trickle for partial credit, to make sure your work isn't wasted.

I rather like Ralph and Malaria graphics. Einstein has neat celestial sphere graphics, but their estimates are way off.
