Those message are for overall project limits and particular your 2 on Ralph could suggests bad jobs cutting off quota (or it could just be ralph being so restricted). The issue is here that WCG runs 6 projects. There are a number of things in BOINC that do not cater satisfactorily with multiproject DCs like e.g. the duration correction factors. 1 machine does not equally efficiently process the 5 different jobs, like HPF2 is quite different from HCC, but both impact the same DCF value.
----------------------------------------The 1h (which is not the production length) credit is explained in a post by knreed in the beta - read only - forum. [Edit: Think the present WCG quota is 75 per core per day.... could have been lowered back when the short DDDT were extended to 6-7 hours average run time]

Thanks for all the info. Here is what the screen on my laptop currently looks like. You can see the lack of any estimated time to completion for uncrunched WUs. Edit: This laptop crunches 24/7 (even when I took it on the bus to work with me ![]() I got 10 WUs errored out just now as they passed the deadline. The one that was already crunching is doing this still, the ones that were still "virgin" seems to have gotten an order by the server (or my client, I don't see anything in the messages) to stop dealing with them: ]Fr 18 Apr 2008 15:44:36 CEST|World Community Grid|Starting BETA_d1jos-A--200804161301387_3 Fr 18 Apr 2008 15:44:36 CEST|World Community Grid|Starting task BETA_d1jos-A--200804161301387_3 using beta4 version 603 Fr 18 Apr 2008 16:47:29 CEST|World Community Grid|Starting BETA_d1ljo-A--200804161301351_0 Fr 18 Apr 2008 16:47:29 CEST|World Community Grid|Starting task BETA_d1ljo-A--200804161301351_0 using beta4 version 603 Fr 18 Apr 2008 16:47:40 CEST|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks. That is possible. Unless a job/batch is bad, WCG will let started jobs finish as they cant tell how far they've progressed. That rule is applied with credit in mind. Some would not be overjoyed if 98% was done on a 6 hour job and WCG busts in to say, sorry, you wasted your time.

Some would not be overjoyed if 98% was done on a 6 hour job and WCG busts in to say, sorry, you wasted your time. That's absolutely fine behaviour: Don't crunch unnecessary WUs, but don't let already done work get wasted. The 1h (which is not the production length) credit is explained in a post by knreed in the beta - read only - forum. OK, So my puter is not suited for this kind of work, at least at the current development status of the application. I think that's a pretty good kind of credit granting system. If there will not be any optimization for Linux and/or Intel, I can simply stop this project, as I'm kind of wasting my cycles on it and they can be used better on other projects. It clearly shows how good puter and application fit to each other. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Saenger at Apr 18, 2008 3:36:16 PM] |

Yep, same thing happened to me. The lack of an estimated time to completion was really the only issue I had as it played havoc with the scheduler which already had its share of problems

Saenger, who says your host is not suited.... did you get substantial deduction over claim over multiple jobs?
----------------------------------------Here a quorum example. Derived that the first 5 returned are used to sum up their 'Units of Data' (UoD) and the total credit, which then determined the credit per UoD of data in a task. The 6th and further returns get to use the average UoD of first 5. Emphasizing, this is a rule set for the beta. Don't know how many will be used when going into production. .... desktop 64.... don't tell me its a 64 bit client on a 32 bit job with a 64 bit benchmark. If so, yes your puter will be more appreciated in credit terms doing real 64 bit science.

Yes, it's a 64bit client, the only one I own ;) I'm no puter farmer, I have just this one, and it's running ubuntu7.10-64. The benchmarks have not changed from 32 to 64 last autumn, I started with 7.04-32. Is there anywhere any 64bit work here in WCG? Or can I choose 64bit apps only in beta? |
