Re: New Beta project WU's are crunching in WCG...

OK, I give up... The server decides...

But what does this message means...??? The beta's would be easy finished in time... I can't see any reason, why I should not get some beta-work on these mashines... Even though they are two of my fastest stallions... thinking

Should I maybee reset the project? What happens then to the active WU's? Do they get killed, or do they resume after the project-reset???

Re: New Beta project WU's are crunching in WCG...

This "(won't finish in time) Computer on 87.8% of time, BOINC on 100.0% of that" message is the result of cycling through work units with wrong duration estimates (not your fault). I have now 12 and 24 hour estimates for HCC and FAAH where they factually take 5 and 11-12 respectively. I just let it run, but it has stopped all work fetching for now.

A project reset will fix it or stopping the client, opening the client_state.xml and editing the <active_frac> value if tiny to read like 0.950000 and the WCG <duration_correction_factor> to something like 1.000000 (note the values must be with 6 digits after the decimal and the right DCF in the WCG section of the client_state.xml must be corrected). The reset will retrieve all unstarted work. Started work will be lost.

[edit: Modifying the client_state.xml runs risk of corrupting your installation, so take a back up and verify before restarting BOINC!]

Re: New Beta project WU's are crunching in WCG...

Well, I gave you the alternate fix. The Wiki leaves that 'retrieve' up in the air:
Reset project: Stop the project's current work, if any, and start from scratch. Use this if BOINC has become stuck for some reason. Any unreported results and tasks in progress will be discarded.

Now wonder if it still does that recovery of unstarted work?

[Added: And to enhance the pain, MY client finished the overestimated work and cut the prediction for remaining queued items to 9 hours for HCC and 16 for FAAH and has happily fetched new work.... you see, just let it run cool ]

Sorry totto sad - worked fine for me on my machines when I had to do it with the 'no completion time' Beta WU's which b*ggered up all my completion times which were sent out near the beginning of this recent phase of testing confused

If I could send you a couple of mine I would blushing

Re: New Beta project WU's are crunching in WCG...

Stuff happens... tongue

So what, I hope the next beta's will come anyhow (but not between 2nd and 10th of March, on that time I'm on a business trip...).

There are still some beta's available, but unfortunally not for windows platforms anymore... If I wouldn't have my daughter over the weekend, who has her bed in my office, I would think about to build up a linux system, to get a few of them... biggrin biggrin biggrin

edited for inappropriate language...CIH

That's either last month or 11 months away. Time for some more long range business planning. biggrin

Re: New Beta project WU's are crunching in WCG...

Hi CA's or Techs, there are any news about this Beta Tests ?

Are finishing in good shape ?

What kind of additional and useful help we could provide you besides return results completed ?

In the last days I did not get any WU's to run and saw today that are a small numbers of results returned now in yesterday Beta Testing project statistics.

Just to coment, I loved the experience with two Beta WU's downloaded in one of my machines that automatically auto-start run in High Priority level passing afront of others WU's, and when finished automatically uploaded and apparently auto-reported the results to WCG (maybe it is just my impression about the happened..).
