At 1 hour a piece you'll be needing allot of these Babies to accumulate 14 days for the Badge ![]() Popping an idea after a few fine glasses of Vino Rosso Siciliana, Doc, wondered why these 'special' projects don't have a member or host restriction of e.g. 10 a day to get the widest spread of machines testing them. Statistically it appears more interesting to me to get 10 each from 200 machines over 60 from just 30-40 machines. If you add the code to BOINC - we will use it :-) We actually do get a pretty broad sample that has been useful for allowing us to find the most significant errors (with the help of the members reporting back their experiences). |

I have received about 15 of these and completed 4. They're taking about an hour, and all have completed with no errors (but all are still awaiting validation).
Almost freaked out when I saw 20 tasks queued. :P I only have set to keep half a day of work in reserve. |

I should also add that if we had not made a mistake with the time estimate for these workunits, fewer would have been handed out at once.
I just update the announcement thread with some additional information - take a look: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=19762 |

I got one and only one: BETA_ d1jyg-A_ 9-- Pending Validation 04/16/2008 14:12:36 04/16/2008 15:14:27 1.01 9.1 / 0.0 Hmmm, credit claim of 9.1 for an hours work seems a little low ![]() Edit: ah!....this could be the reason We should probably mention a few things about this project since people will start noticing it now that the first workunits are starting to validate. Each result returned by the project contains unique data. We have some additional information in the results that we will use to help us make sure that the very strong majority of results returned contain the correctly computed data. We are going be sending 10 results per workunit. Each workunit will run for a specific length of time on each computer. For the beta test we have specified 1 hour. A computer running this project will generate a unit of data in about 90 seconds of execution time on a average computer. This means that if you have a really powerful computer, you may generate 200 of these units of data in 1 hour while a slower computer may only generate 20. We will be awarding credit by averaging the the claimed credit per unit of data, and then taking that value and awarding the # of units of data in a result * the average claimed credit per unit of data. So in this case if the slower computer had a claimed credit of 22 and the larger computer had a claimed credit of 200, then the average credit per unit of data would be 1.05. This means that the slower computer would be granted 21 credits and the faster computer would be awarded 210 credits. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 16, 2008 10:15:26 PM] |

No idea - but I now know how the credit is calculated now by reading Kevins post elsewhere

Yes, you tend to sell the bear-skin before it has even been sighted in the x-hairs

Picked up several myself !
So far all have run nicely on both Linux, and Windows. Suspend/Resume seems to work fine on both also. I did get one work unit with a due date of the 16th that is running on high priority while all others are the 18th. To completion starts off just mirroring the cpu time a first, later on it will pick up apx when it will end though and countdown as it should. Probably the client adjusting to the run times also around an hour per machine. G^R |

Got a few myself.
They have been crunching on my Win XP 64bit Dual Core machine and so far so good. Oh, they show on Task Manager as to be running as 32 bit applications. |
