Hit a wall with the idle dual core machine. The third and fourth KVM's work but the issue now is the mouse. The wireless ones don't seem to work and I don't have any wired PS/2 rodents so I had to order one. I know there's an ancient one someplace but I'll be d*mned if I'm going to flagellate myself by going on that particular never ending scavenger hunt. It's no doubt a ball mouse anyway and if I have to use a ball mouse again, someone will die (probably me)

Good to be back ! Impossible to stay away for very long you know.
Twilyth, I have an AMD quad offline to WCG right now since SNS2 dried up. It doesn't seem to like the FAHV and CEP work units. FAHV hangs and CEP units get a high percentage of errors. That's the only machine that seems to have any problems. Runs everything else just fine. I may try to bring it back online later this weekend if I have time. I have recently bought 4 IBM 3650 M3 servers off eBay for about $400 each. They aren't the fastest servers but with dual sockets and quad core processors in each, that's 16 threads of processing x 4 servers. I'm starting to think that is the way to go for the non-GPU stuff. Most have dual power supplies, at least 2 (some have 4) HDDs, minimum 32GB memory 2 have 48GB and I can run them headless very easy. Everything in them is hot swap except the processors and memory. All for about $400 (plus shipping) each. Bad news is, they suck the power !!. I have two rooms running almost at breaker capacity (turn on the vacuum cleaner and everything goes down.) When I had the house built I had a 200AMP feed put in and as it turns out, that was a good thing. Anyway, cooler weather is coming and the bill should go down (he said with his fingers crossed). OK...AMD Quad is back on WCG. I'll let it run for a while and see how things go. So far about 15 WUs have validated so looking good for now.... I have it set for AIDS only to see if that makes a difference.
Johnny, Heading back to Colorado (my home state) October 12 with my son for a little R&R. We'll be out on the western side near my home town of Grand Junction for about a week. Hopefully, they didn't experience the flooding that other parts of the state did... |

Doneske: Thanks for the info but I think I'm done adding rigs. I don't really see myself moving up much in the stats even with another GPU project. Plus my electric bill is already obscene not to mention the fact that I only have a 100amp panel - which given the age of my house isn't bad. Of course it was really bad over the summer but even in the winter it's not cheap, especially running 6 or 7 high end GPUs. Bottom line - I'm pretty much maxed out.
----------------------------------------There's also the fact that I have all the parts for another dual core machine (2 quad xeons). So were I to do anything at all, I would have to start there. I should really try to find all that stuff and see what I should do with it all. |
