Hi to all Andrax crounchers. Nice to see you twilyth, wellcome. What llucilluc posted!!!  twilyth, ok about the no avatar. The Bages are better looking anyway.  Ah yes.... gpu woirkunits. Too bad I got my gpu and only had about 3 weeks to crunch with it. GPU crunching is (I think) where it's at So does the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona (Spain). We seem to be doing pretty well in the team challenges, especially the ones for SN2S runtime and points. I looked to see if we might catch up with the UK team, but I don't think so. Still, pretty darn good for a small team. Cheers!

After years of posting (too much I think) my work and important time-off stuff like errands have taken priority. Especially these last 4-5 years of this lackadaisical economy. No, I don't want to go there. I just can't wait until all is better. Yes, we are doing well in Team Challenges. The Small Team Challenge has also been very good for our Team as well. Anyways, I hope that you and everyone else is having a great week-end! /heads to the coal mine LOL! |

Oh my. You seem to put in quite a lot of time already from what I've seen here - I didn't mean to imply any differently. We old retired people lose track of time is all. What is this 'weekend' thing you're talking about by the way? I'm probably the one being a slacker since I have a dual core rig offline. Two actually if you count the one that I have parts for but never got around to building (and probably won't since I don't think I have an outlet left to plug it into - although if I really, really tried . . .) But when we go to GPU crunching again, you can bet I will have it up and running for team Andrax with 3 HD7950's. twylith, yes, I do/did tale a lot of time for these stats. That was also an indication of the battered economy in my sector (still not even decent, yet I am busier as ever). This 'weekend' thing is like a momentarily holiday for a Roman gladiator. As for crunching GPU work units, RaymondFO will *really* like it! And if Doneske comes back to our Team, so will he! And popeyecu will as well (he built my cruncher a few years ago and he updated my ram to 9 GIGS and the Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card as well. Not the newest but it is a solid performer. I have an appointment today and I am already running late.  /dashes out and wishes he had an Aston Martin aka James Bond style. LOL! I'm just wondering when there is going to be a formal announcement of some sort. 'Fall' officially begins in a couple weeks and IIRC the new HCC project was tentatively supposed to start then, although I guess that was never really definite. I just feel like I'm all dressed up with no place to go
---------------------------------------- since I never even took the GPU's out of the other rigs that are still up and running.I was looking at the challenges again and I think that if I bring the idle dual core back online for next month, it might be enough to make a difference but I think it's too late for this month so I guess I'll continue working on that at my normal glacial pace. I've moved the rig to another room and cleared up some room to work. It should just be a matter of firing it up and reinstalling a current boinc version, but things rarely seem to go that smoothly. The last install on this machine required me to purge the registry of any reference to the program for example. I have to be in the right mood for that sort of tedium. |

And yes, "all dressed up and no place to go" is a great term for what I believe that many crunchers feel about this. I hope that they can find a project that takes advantage of this advanced gpu computing. That would make me happy. That and some CURES/Solutions solved! That would make us all feel awesome. ----------------------------------------I know my RAC is decent. In fact I just checked and apparently, I'm still in the top 100. The thing is that even though HCC ended months ago, I'm still on the sugar buzz of getting hundreds of thousands of boinc points in a single day and I've never really adjusted to going back to the 'normal' pace of things. As Chapelle's Rick James might say 'GPU computing - it's a heck of a dr*g.' But I promise not to complain about that every . . . single . . . day.  So try not to read anything into the fact that I might, completely inadvertently and unconsciously, just happen to work it into every post.  (kidding )Back on topic though, what I meant by 'glacial' was my work ethic. I tend to be really, painfully slow when it comes to getting things done. I really need to try to get a little more motivated. |
