Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

Hmmm...
Hey Sekerob, Adywebb... Downloaded Beta this morning, and the effects range across the board...currently running hpf2_rosetta at a cool 27 degrees C, with an average 80% CPU utilization rate, at 69.2MB ram usage. AMD Duron 1.6Gig w/ VIA Apollo KT266A chipset on a PCChips M811 board. I only put all that out because I am experiencing across the board improvement in all areas, on projects outside the purview of the fix. Can't wait to receive an HCC task. System is XPSP2, fully patched, with IE7. biggrin smile

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

Okie dokie!
Am monitoring closely. One thing I notice that's different is how large a work unit I have for HPF2. My system is fairly up to date, but is still a below 2Gig single core model. It is currently 7 hours into a 19 hour monster work unit. CPU temp is high at 55 degrees C, but that always happens somewhere in any of the projects work on my little gem. smile I will post here regularly until test complete. good luck

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

I'm rather 'intrigued' (for lack of a better word in my vocabulary) with the Temp variation observation of easy jobs running at 100% versus complex jobs also running 100% (with lots of Page Faults and kernel time). The only time I've ever observed this is with QMC heavies. Use Speedfan, set a target temp and it will virtually always hover at a steady temperature. The best crunching environment. HPF2 has it fair share of PF (on P4HT) versus new HCC 5.20 having few in comparison.

I know what your saying, and your right ! I am technologically challenged in the cooling department, and will follow your advice. I input it just because I am watching it, and it happened to be a neat sort of parameter, for me at least. Because I knew I had to watch it, until I remedy it!!! biggrin

I'm going back to bed, Sek! It's 5AM here, though I imagine it's lunchtime in Italy! Cheers!

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

All is well...
Running FAaH2 with no problems. I do notice more memory utilization than previous BOINC version. Uses 128MB now while crunching. Previously it was 98MB. All else nominal. No hangs, no freezes, no complaints. I like points reported on HPF2 unit finished a few hours ago. It is a little higher than avg. on previous BOINC version. I don't pay much attention to PF's, as they were not my major complaint... smile

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

One curious note... HPF2 extended from an original 17 hours to over 23. Why? Another andraxian noted this, and they are running dual core. That is a glitch, isn't it? How serious. It was they last HPF2 unit I did. Another coming, scheduled for 9 hours...

Hello 7cures,
Here is the thread (in the HPF Forum) about longer HPF2 work units: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=18589
