Beta Testing Starting Feb 19, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer) for Windows

Got the first one, version BETA TESTING 5.21. On Vista HP / Q6600 combo no change and little to no Page Faulting on this platform, same as before. Run time same in the 4 hour range. Screenshots side by side of a beta and current production job with slight more but still insignificant kernel time. Only difference is the highly erratic Time To Completion that at 25% still showed it going up rather than down.

Running in service install so do not know how it behaves with science graphics loaded.

Added: Near picture perfect quorum, slightly longer run time than current production release jobs (in this machine) where it averaged about 4.25.

edit: (funny, but it was not the 22nd for the beta starting though here we're ahead of 'our' times ;>)

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

I have got one too, two minutes later, on my new Q6600 XP, then two others five hours later. So I have had three running simultaneously during several hours. Everything looks good and the page faults counts are so low (below 200,000 for the two which are still at 80+ %) that it seems abnormal. No, I am joking, but that looks so smooth that I wondered if this new machine would have had the problem at all with the old HCCs. So I "ordered" one and now I know: it has! 500 million PFs at only 25 %!

So for me that sounds good, unless there is any problem at validation time.

If there is anything else to watch, please tell me.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

I finished one of these Beta work units today, and the difference is remarkable. There were just over 200,000 page faults, a 10,000 fold improvement. Wow!

System details: Windows XP SP2, Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM.

It’s great knowing that more work will get done on this project with the same resources. For the CAs who listened to us, and the techs and application programmers who solved this problem, thanks!

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

I've crunched 4 of these now on my Q6600 machine (@3.42GHz), Windows XP SP2, 2GB RAM.

Sadly they crunched away whilst I wasn't around to check on page faults etc, but they all seem to have crunched fine at around 3hrs for each, with claimed/granted credit in line with other projects here:

Example individual Result:

Than tell us the OS/CPU/RAM so we have a future reference (just edit into your post).

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

We have had a large number of workunits complete during the beta test. Our own observations, the members observations reflect a large decrease in the page faults.

Additionally, the differences between points claimed by different computers is drastically reduced. As such we will be releasing this to production in a little bit.

thank you all for the testing.

Re: Beta Testing Starting Feb 22, 2008 - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer)

Kevin - I've just added an 8-Core server machine to the Beta testing on this which used to suffer badly with the old units - any chance you can send a few to it to try?

Sorry - didn't see this note until this morning.

How is it doing with the production workunits?

Are those the ones that are HCC 5.15 or 5.20 Kevin? - if its the 5.20's then its just starting to crunch them now, so I'll let you know.
