Hi, I posted this Idea in another thread...
----------------------------------------There are several things we can do to boost our numbers: - BUY small advertising in small community newspapers and post an WCG ad there. Buy it with your own money and if its' not too expensive or if you have some spare money, keep doing it all the time - BUY cheap advertising to radio also. - CALL or EMAIL (for example) WorldVision (www.worldvision.ca - witch is doing the same kind of work, like reducing disease among children in 3rd world countries) and propose to them to run an add on they're website and pressure WCG to run an add from WorldVision on they're website so both "endeavours" will benefit from this. People from WCG will donate to a very noble cause in order to double they're charity (it is only 35$ a month to sponsor a child with nurishment, drugs, education). People from WorldVision usualy have computers and they will trust something promoted by WorldVision. This action is aplicable to other Charity Endeavours like Red Cross, and many many others Here is a list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Humanitarian_aid_organizations I'm sure some of them will be happy to get some attention from other "human resources pools". - Make a Donation Account for Advertising porposes (Managed by WCG+USERS) in order to give some spare change like 1-5$ a month for every user. This account should have every action made with these money, voted through the forum by the WCG users. If we are more than 100.000 users and we give 1-5 $ a month this can realy boost the Ad Campaign. And everything will be voted by US (USERS). Also the account (witch will require some kind of Paypal service) should have it's own website where the proposed actions are seen and voted only by the users and where each action has the expenses tag attatched. All of this will require minimum amount of money or energy.... if only we realy want to help this poor world. How about it ? Give me your input to these ideas so we can organize ourselfs. If we let only the big corportations to "do the work" we will see little effect all the time. So? |

Hi damir1978
----------------------------------------There are a lot of us out there trying to promote the WCG as volunteers all of our time freely given Even these events are relatively poorly supported because believe it or not there aren't that many of us keen Forum goers who will directly support the WCG. If I can't muster the interest for more than a handful of the truely dedicated (Thanks folks you know who you are ) to press the Stumble upon button to promote a site promoting the WCG i.e. http://cancer.researchonyourpc.com then I think clubbing together to buy advertising is I'm sorry to say pretty much doomedI hope that I am completely wrong and I hope the forum dwellers will prove me to be the old tired cynic that I am. I do wish you well in your endeavour. If there's anything I could do to help - let me know Dave ![]() |

I hate having a negative attitude, but I have thought of such ideas myself. To many liabilites, possible legal issues and just not good business. Then of course, nobody will be interested, at least on any scale of significance taking into account the 7-10 people you might get to join your idea.
The best strategy I've come up with is to advertise in unconventional ways and free. Buy a World Community Grid T-shirt and go flash it off at the local mall, university or another high traffic area. Make a Myspace page and put World Community Grid stuff on it and a link. Put a 'tid bit' in a local news paper. Contact the local news channels to see if they have any interest. Spread word by mouth or on instant messenger..just don't go preaching! Yeah, advterising such a thing is hard. Trying to get someone to join and run the grid is even harder! Asking for donations? lol Maybe, just apply for free money from the National Science Foundation..jk |

Thank you for your posting David,
----------------------------------------But actually only one thing we can do for sure: Put 1-5 $ in the WCG Advertising Account. That is not hard but require 2 things. - Our community advisors should put a word with WCG to make that ADVERTISING ACCOUNT page (with Paypal or Credit Card payments) - And then let people to choose witch Advertising Activity should be promoted through brute vote. Some later updates on what happened with that Activity will be necesary. After that, for sure people will put whatever cents they wanna spend there. The key is Community Advisors putting the word. 'If you build it, they will come' (Field of Dreams (1989) movie) |

If you think about it, how much (money) they will loose in doing the Advertising Account Page versus how much they can get in the first month only, you will think why they didn't did it before ?
----------------------------------------They don't need money ? I'm prepared to give a monthly sum. Not much, but enough. And I don't think I'm th only one who will do such a thing. |

I'd Veto this type of proposal. Keep the Grid away from any type of account transactions, donations and anything else by individuals.
It would do more harm then good. Advertise indepently of official World Community Grid involvement! Anyone else? |

As a former CA I can tell you that the CA's won't administer a fund on your behalf
----------------------------------------If you build a website that needs funds to stay in business such as http://stats.free-dc.org/new/teamstats.php?proj=wcg&team=Christians then a paypal donate button is appropriate and keeps the site running I'm not sure you could get people to donate to a fund of a indeterminate idea. If you are looking to fund a local advert it might be possible to get together local support for the cause of the WCG. Then people will know you, you gain their trust and you can demonstrate the deliverable of your idea. That way some form of integrity is maintained. I'm not saying that your idea is a bad one - just one that has to work within the boundaries of the Internet and around the Globe. We are all aware of the recently deceased president of Nigeria who has £X in a bank and only needs your bank account details to..... It's just easier to build that trust face to face Have a look at another of my ventures http://www.wcgwiki.org/spreadtheword/top10.cfm Dave ![]() |

I think I was misunderstood a little.
----------------------------------------When I'm talking a website or page about it , I'm refering all being done by WCG , NOT ME ! So, If WCG is making such a page I will just gladly put the money there. And I guess we can trust WCG a little, in not running with the money. |

So, If WCG is making such a page I will just gladly put the money there. And I guess we can trust WCG a little, in not running with the money. It's not going to happen... it IS up to us to spread the word. IBM does do some advertising about WCG, so we need to do our part as well. We all have huge hearts and want so much for everyone to understand what is going on here. Takes time and also for us ourselves to jump on each and every opportunity that arises to talk about WCG. Do what you can and trust that we will grow in leaps and bounds. But please do not count on a CA to do all the work. They are non-paid volunteers just like us and they are doing what they can offline like we are. Some actually have brought many crunchers from other BOINC projects they are connected to over here to crunch. So we are pressing forward as much as we can and it is working, maybe slower than we would like, but still we are growing ![]() Keep crunching and keep pushing forward damir1978. We are joined in promoting WCG and we are all part of Team WCG. ![]() ![]() |
