Well, with the media, it's all about ratings as ratings = $$$ for them. They're right about the 145 MPH winds being a Category 4 hurricane. Still, you're getting gale force winds once they're above 35 MPH (74 is hurricane). You may be in your paradise but I'm not sure everyone would agree. Then again, you may be far enough away from the Bay area that you don't feel any quakes that hit there (I'm figuring you're south of 80, east of Sacramento, north of Yosemite and west of the high pass
---------------------------------------- ). The soil is different here. We had a 2.x or 3.x here a few years back. The epicenter was a couple hours drive away - in another state. That sort of thing isn't even noticed out in CA. Here, it was enough to wake you up at night and have you think a military cargo plane is about to land on you - that is, until you realize the house is vibrating. The waves travel a lot further on this side of the "back 40". Now if your idea of paradise is along the lines of lows around 70, highs in the mid 80s, chance of afternoon showers on the windward shores, spend nine months of the year in Hawaii. They don't even need weathermen there, just play the same recording of the forcast. |

The best thing about earthquakes is that 95% of the time they are over before you realize what the &%^$ is going on. ![]() ![]() |

Five of my eight are good quad's. I'd like to replace two of the three duo's. Quads will come down in price but then there will be 8 cores ... 16 cores. As long as there are a lot of gamers, the speeds will go up. The power consumption of a quad is signifantly less than 2 duo's. Beautiful morning here. Blue sky now but more weather on the way. Lots of power outages and downed trees everywhere. Hwy 50 is open but I80 is still closed. The forecast is for showers off-and-on through next Thursday. Fernley (in Nevada) just had a levee break. SoCal is going to have some mudslides. I'm ready for spring. Cheers! ![]() edited for language...cih ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 6, 2008 9:20:56 PM] |

Make sure you can one.. or a few. They reach 5 GHz on AIR cooling. Of course, you won't be running that 24/7 for crunching. Just for show. :pedited for language...cih [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 6, 2008 9:27:54 PM] |

Dataman--The machine running the weather station-If you are not using it for surfing or anything else and are behind a firewall you could cut off all services not needed and put the grid on high priorty--may increase output-- By the way how is the weather?

Dataman--The machine running the weather station-If you are not using it for surfing or anything else and are behind a firewall you could cut off all services not needed and put the grid on high priorty--may increase output-- By the way how is the weather? Thanks. I tried increasing BOINC priority above the weather station. It didn't bother BOINC but the weather station didn't like it. Since the main purpose is for the weather station, BOINC will just have to get what's left. If I ever get some spare funds for the hardware, I am going to put a weather cam on it too which will only make it worse. The cost of the weather cam is a bit pricy though. After the high winds and lightening, the weather is boring now. Dark grey clouds and ocasional rain. I think all the main roads are open now. We had about two hours of clear skys yesterday morning but then the rain returned. The air was full of the sound of chain saws. No damage here except for the windmill. Tomorrow was upgraded to "mostly cloudy" from "chance of rain'. Cheers! PS: I should pass 2.5 million today and I just noticed I exceeded 8k results. I like it! ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Jan 6, 2008 4:15:36 PM] |
