Good Morning MOTley crew!
----------------------------------------It appears we are going to have to batten down the hatches here on the left coast for the next four days. Three winter storms are going to do the freight train thing out of the Gulf of Alaska. High winds, lots of rain but high snow levels. The prediction is for 10 ft or more of snow in the high country and wind gusts up to 75 mph around here. The flatlanders are getting the sandbags ready. I hope my power holds out and I don't loose anymore trees. I'm going to go out and make sure my aged emergency generator is working. But I'm all set with food, water (and beer ), gas, kerosense and firewood .... bring it on!!! Now that the new machine has kicked in it looks like I flatlined at about 40K points per day. I can nip at your heels, Gerald but can't pass you. The P4 that also runs my weather station is doing almost nothing and I can't figure out why and another P4 is running at 68C. It's always something.Cheers all! ![]() ![]() |

I'm all set with food, water (and beer ), gas, kerosense and firewood .... bring it on!!! ![]() What -- no milk, bread and eggs for French Toast? When I lived in Raleigh, two weather events would send everyone to the store in a panic to buy what was needed to make French Toast -- the possibility of a tropical storm and the slightest possibility of snow flurries. I never did find out why it was so important to have French Toast on those occasions though. Good luck riding out the storms. Sounds pretty severe from here. |

I hope you are feeling better. I have all the food stuffs covered. I must admit that french toast is seldom on the menu here But a slab of hog, 3 eggs and fried potatoes and onions are. (I hope my doctor is not reading this ... breakfast is suposed to be oatmeal ). The local news is showing all the people above 5K feet stocking up at the stores though. The snow is supposed to start at pass level (~7k feet) and work its way down to 1500 feet by Sunday. Cheers! ![]() ![]() |

Blizzie,
Every result that is sent back is validated. I check daily to make sure I don't have work units that Errored out or Invalid ones. Will look into that again but my understanding was that this is a check for valid result FORMAT only, checking result CONTENT validity would mean to recompute the whole thing. Don't know if every WU goes out twice at least. Trust me, I know what I'm doing. We overclockers push for every ounce of performance. I almost figured you do (despite the case-less quad) but I wanted to make sure that you don't start a trend and people who do NOT know the traps of OC'ing think it's just knowing which cycle tweakings have to be done. You sometimes make it sound too easy and fool-proof. That's all. Best regards, Stefan. |

All of us would be unhappy--Blizzie has been a wonderful addition to the team and an inspiration to everyone--Very talented to do the things he is doing and only in High School. He has a great future.I wish we had more like him Hehe. I tried to get my friends to join but they don't see the point. :( I don't blame them though. Made this computer blindly during summer when I decided to not overclock at all. Got some help online at overclock.net and started going about from there. Reach 3.0 GHz easily. Keopt it that way then pushed for 3.2 GHz at the end of summer break. During Thanksgiving I reached 3.4 GHz, and this winter I hit 3.6 GHz and intend to keep it there. It does get a lot easier when you know what you're doing; adjusting Vcore, VDimm, NB voltage, etc. The first time is a pain since you're scared. *looks at my Quad* I wish I could overclock my friend in the corner. At first it's frustrating but at the end when you get it where you want it's satisfying and you always want faster.. and faster. Will look into that again but my understanding was that this is a check for valid result FORMAT only, checking result CONTENT validity would mean to recompute the whole thing. Don't know if every WU goes out twice at least. I thought each WU is ran by at least 2 people, some projects more. LOL No way man, ocing is so ezy! It's always something.Cheers all! ![]() Check Task Manager and make sure something isnt using cpu that isnt necessary--I have that problem on one machine--NortonIS out of control. I just disable it--behind a networked firewall I never did like Symantec/Norton. I use McAfee. I checked out the P4 with the weather station this morning. There is nothing installed on the machine except the OS, virus/firewall, Ambient Weather Virtual Weather Station and BOINC. It is the weather station that is causing it. It runs at a higher priority than BOINC and wants about half the processor capacity. Each element of the display is actually a distinct window and the total I am displaying is a significant chunk of the processor. BOINC is only getting about 40-50%. If I de-select some elements on the display, BOINC usage goes up. I just converted to Ambient Weather about a month ago from a freeware application that I’ve used for years and it used almost no resources. I do like AW much better though so I will just have to live with it. The other P4 is an IBM ThinkCenter and has a small case and a single case fan. It needs more fan capacity but is really not worth spending time on it. It just sits there at 67-68C. I hope to replace it and another P4 with quads over the course of this year and keep only the P4 with the weather station. That would give me 30 processors and I could crunch a month/day. Maybe someday I can run them on solar power. If there is anything I have in excess from May to September it is broiling sunlight. That’s not the case today though. Looking to the North, it looks like nasty weather coming. ![]() ![]() |
