Actually got the power back pretty quick but no internet for about 27 hours. So there should be a dip then a spike. That's good news! But for me, since my phone is via the internet, that would be bad. |

Little Mermaid,
---------- I do not think I have a photo where I call it Indy. It's essentially when "I'm doing the alpha" that I use it. If I refer to the photos, it's because I think it's obvious that Louloup is doing well. And, even though I struggled with this idea, now I'm sure he needed it, and it helped him to land (to be zen ?). There is also, that's 'my vision' of communication. If I wanted to make it a 'machine', I would speak to him in German, or in a 'hard' language. Another technique is to use the first word one thinks (which avoids having to look for what to say is a bit of a 'reflex word'). As long as we always say the same, it works as well. And then, I think the more I talk to him, the more it stimulates his intelligence / understanding. That's why I speak to him in French, in English, in Spanish, a little in German and Italian, and sometimes, a few words of Breton. Just to call him, we can say "ici", "viens", "here", "come / komme", "aquí", double tap on our thigh, and there are two whistles (the cool and the emergency one). So use his name, it's okay (it's the same thing ?), just like I call it 'my big ball of hair', or 'my little love ball' (see 'my monster'). And he knows very well that I'm talking about him. -------- Is this an impression, or do you regularly have power outages / internet? I am a little surprised, that in the bottom of the French countryside where I am, the last breakdown (because of a storm) lasted less than 10 minutes. ![]() Good night from France everybody. ![]() |

Stefada - I'd say our power grid could definitely use some improvement. The line I'm on used to never go out. If it was out then there was a major issue somewhere. The one my mom is on (maybe 400 yards away) on the other hand would go out with every storm. I don't know what changed but now the roles are reversed.
----------------------------------------BladeD - Yep, lost the phone as well as it is fed along with the internet. Internet problem turned out to be a kink in the fiber optic line running to the adtrans. Seems to me that line should have more protection and/or be larger simply for protection from such simple damage.
One drop raises the sea.

Talking about power lines:
----------------------------------------stefada, I don't know whether your power lines in France are underground or above ground? acpartsman, as I remember it, most of your power lines are above ground making them vulnerable to all kinds of loud weather of which the USA has plenty. In Denmark most are underground now - we have a friendly soil for that. Since a very damaging wind storm in the 1990's that put out power for weeks at some places, they really prioritized this and began digging everywhere. Of course, securing a clear 'line of fire' without danger from overhanging trees and so on has to be step #1, but underground utilities are safer, aren't they? Or satellite networks? Wouldn't that be even better? So much eventually depends on safe data transmission - phone, too - emergency calls ![]() EDIT: a 'with' should be a 'which' which it is now ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 10, 2018 5:22:20 PM] |
