Went that route when looking for a new occupation - in the dark the week after Christmas. So, what did you find? ![]() |

Little Mermaid,
----------------------------------------Too high a temperature even in mid winter for Vikings ![]() Je n'ose pas imaginer ! --------- I do not dare to imagine! Today at noon, it was already 34 ° C in the shade here. With Louloup we spent most of the day spawning at home, and we will not leave until it is 22/23H. Especially that it is even worse for him, with his hair, to the point that he asks to return! The exit of the early afternoon, we go to the nearest canisite (public dog WC ? ), he 'does his little business', and then he pulls on the leash to go home. While without the heat, he can run / swim for 5H in a row without any problem. But like me too I fear the heat, it suits me although he does like that. ---------- A question about the translation, that I take advantage of Base Camp to improve my English. Is the nickname Louloup (the real name of my dog is Indy), which makes sense, could result in Woowolf? That literally, in France (it's a very common nickname), it means: little wolf. But translated like that, we lose all the softness of the sound. And for a dog, the intonation and the number of syllables is something very important. It is said that an order must not be more than two syllables. Modulo how we teach them, that when I whispers: "Hush, baby he's sleeping!" by showing the ceiling (I told him when we had new neighbors), he understands very well that there is no need to make a noise, and there is no need to discuss. Once again, I'm starting to talk more about my dog than anything else ... It's really not easy to switch from French to English (especially when you're bad in a foreign language). From my point of view, in the very structure of language, there is a difference: English is a 'language of movement', while French is a 'language of description'. For conjugations for example, if I mastered English, I think I would use simpler times. Very often, I use three different words in French, and Google Trad replaces them all with one in English. It's a little disturbing. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 6, 2018 8:05:23 PM] |

Welcome acpartsman ![]() stefada, I think you get better and better at English. Often you deal with difficult subjects where there is a special terminology. Louloup, I would never call him anything else. Not even Indy. I understand he doesn't agree with the hot weather and you neither. Ours has been pleasant today - some 23C - as perfect as you can wish for. Already tomorrow we'll soar into the 30s - and perhaps brush our record of 1975 of 36,4C ![]() I found it good to use Google Translate for French. I cannot find the time these days, so I hope you forgive me. And yes, the difference between English and French - the structure of the languages - is quite big. But it could be worse. Different letters - Japanese, Hindi .... you name it. |

---------- I understand perfectly, but I think it's very important that he keep his name, Indy, because of his past. And that's why I never wanted to change, that somewhere is all that remains of his identity. When I got it back, it was 8 months old (only), I was the 4th to take care of it, and it was through the Society for the Protection of the Animals (A national organization). I changed everything in his life (and he in mine), but his name, he had to keep at least that (from my point of view). And then, with his side player / adventurer, it makes me think of Indiana Jones. (When Sean Connery calls him Indy) But above all, at the level of communication, it is not the same thing. "Indy, here!" and "Louloup, are you coming?", those are not the same messages. ![]() Pour en revenir à la traduction. Woowolf, ou Woowoolf ? ça en serait une bonne pour Louloup ? ---------- To return to the translation. Woowolf, or Woowoolf? would that be good for Louloup? ---------- Finally, no worries Little Mermaid, that you do not take time every time to use the French version. The first reason that I post bilingual is that I am not sure of my translations. So at least that way, you have the original, and any francophone will be able to confirm that if something is badly said, it is not voluntary. And there is also that I love the French language, for all its subtilis, its games of words, contre-pétries, etc ... And I am far, very far, to know how to say it in English. But if that can make you 'curious'. ![]() |

I am back home from a little trip I took to the Pacific Northwest. I watched a flight demonstration from the US Navy Blue Angels over Lake Washington. The tickets were a gift from my lil' mermaid.
----------------------------------------![]() I have moved all my gear to the new camp at MOT. I know I am a little late to the party, but I brought fresh beer. Strange, it is still August 6 to me. Cheers ![]() ![]() |

Good to see you again, NixChix
![]() Saw the Thunderbirds (decimated by an Italian stomach infection) seven years ago at a Danish AF Base. It's not easy to take a picture like the one you show. Good job! I suppose I need to scrutinize my statement from Bank Norwitchian ..... Cannot remember having bought those show tickets. What was that brand of beer you brought in Ohio? I don't know if I ought to get more of it - or avoid it ![]() Do you bring any of it to our Georgia Camp? @ stefada: If you think it's important to Louloup to keep his 'Indy' name, you do that. I don't think it brings all that many happy memories for him - I think you whispering "Louloup, tu viens ?" is all he wants to hear ![]() ![]() Good Morning Base Campers First of all welcome to this novel form of trek to acpartsman ![]() davwhite5xq7 ![]() NixChix ![]() What Base Camp does right now We are on our third day of our challenge style trek to MOT Our host, Captain keithhenry is very kind to us - has named us MOTers for life with free hook-up rights ![]() - he hasn't succumbed to putting up bail for us yet, but I'm working at it. But he appreciates your work in a way you have never tried before - all those cheerleader and musicians!!! Have you been to MOT's team thread and seen the celebrations of you? You start here and work your way back. keithhenry also asks you to come and say hello - maybe tell a little about yourselves ... We are in fact solidly in front with or without counting tanner2's work to us. Very good. Unexpectedly very, very good! It's kind of fun to measure our firepower this way. I was thinking of putting up a WCG-wide *Attention - Achtung - Attenzione* to attract campers for this challenge, fearing we could not match our dignified old host team - but since we're racing along like Blue Angels I'll wait until Base Camp's GRAND GALLA SNURK CELEBRATION trek in September. We don't ask for help, when it's not needed, do we? ![]() ![]() - I don't get that, NixChix, did I really give you that ticket? Not that you don't deserve it, it's just, well, ![]() I don't want the rest of the crew to feel slighted. So what would you like of similar value to you as a Blue Angel trip is to NixChix? You have been to the Moon already. EuroDisney? The crew currently consists of: acpartsman BladeD davwhite5xq7 little mermaid NixChix TLD tanner2 yodap@BC The badge we are earning is this: ![]() If you out there want to join the fun, you're welcome. ♥ Willkommen ♥ Bienvenue ♥ Welcome ♥ to seasoned as well as novice Base Campers. ![]() - my own photo July 2011 - it was very difficult to catch them even as they flew in relative slow motion |

Good to see you again, NixChix Sorry for the confusion Little Mermaid. No need to check your bank statement as I didn't make off with your bank card for the weekend. I was referring to my own little mermaid, the one who impersonated a famous cartoon mermaid at an unnamed magical theme park for many years. I didn't intend to make the rest of the base campers feel slighted.![]() Saw the Thunderbirds (decimated by an Italian stomach infection) seven years ago at a Danish AF Base. Of course I brought plenty of Blue Moon back with me to Ohio. I loaded up as much as our ship could hold at our quick stop at Tranquility Base. Since you emptied those cans out to make your tower, I brought Fremont IPA from Seattle for our enjoyment. I stopped there for lunch Saturday and loaded up Escher-One. For the record, that Blue Angels photo is not mine, as I have no way to post my photos. It *is* representative of what I saw over Lake Washington (and how low they flew). I hope my photos came out that good or as good as your Thunderbird photo. I hope to see the Thunderbirds someday as the F-16 is my favorite jet. Cheers ![]() ![]() |
