Thank you Capt. Joe.
As to pleasant: Playing Hexagame, I stumbled upon this: from no less than a Minnesota University Extension - we come more or less straight from Maine where we barely avoided the brunt of it - but now ![]() ![]() Please, let it be between you and me, Capt. Joe. We will go through hell , high water, your bats coming out from your basement, and whatever insects buzzing our tents for Bearcat ![]() ![]() |

LM, just take large doses of Vitamin B1 along with the deet and the bugs will stay away.

Good Morning Base Campers!
Maine trek The trek that never lived but refused to die is over. Urden left as last man. Thank you for participating ![]() You are back with Kraland, Urden – but you’re invited to put in just one day at our current trek: Minnesota Crunchers to earn this rare moose badge ![]() Minnesota half-trek acpartsman joined and the seismograph went wild. Thank you for coming ![]() Do you plan to earn the moose badge without dave noticing? By the way: I decided that we shall have one extra minted just for Bearcat as an/a honorary badge. By the way, too: yodap, the idea man behind the moose badge, said he liked owls, too, so we better invent a trek where an owl badge would fit. He linked to these babies ![]() General chit-chat Yesterday was so lousy. I knew I had had it minus so little that I couldn’t or wouldn’t see how little. Fatigue and pain and despair. I was behind with everything and had to dig deep for the energy for just brushing my teeth. With the best of intentions to catch up, I began the day by stuffing the washer with white laundry to be washed at 90C/194F and walked to my wonderful doctor and the dermatologist to pay bills - yes, it’s expensive to have moved to another group of health insurance, but necessary to keep this one-of-a-kind doctor, so I feel I get great value for my money. Upon returning, my laundry was done – and rust colored! ![]() Upstair Yvonne is having her bathroom renovated, and they had to replace a valve in the basement to turn off the water in order to do that and that made a lot of rust from the inside of those old pipes loosen ![]() So I snapped. I got angry with the wrong person for the wrong reason. Of course, I apologized at once. Washed the clothes twice again with a chlorine treatment in between without luck. Still a clayish color. ![]() Went to bed early. ![]() Upstairs Yvonne doesn’t want the halibut tonight when I take her to dinner at Kanal Kroen but she will find something else. This is the view when a ship passes right outside the windows of that place. We do have room for more Base Campers and we have a black flies defense that pulls teeth out ![]() ![]() - hey, Minnesota is one big camp ground, so come forward, please, don't be shy ![]() ![]() |

Thank you, Ted!!! Have you tried it yourself? I don't like to use the deet that much as it is a bad chemical. ![]() So i use just the large doses of Vitamin B1 when i use to fish off the river banks around here and when i went hiking, always worked for me but you need to start the doses a couple days before the event to give ti time to start coming through your skin. little buggers wont even lite on you because they don't like the smell even though humans can't smell anything. You can feel it coming out through your skin though. If you want to try this go easy as some people don't react well to the large doses needed. For those folks there is a replacement, though at the moment i can't think of the name of the stuff. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by TLD at May 3, 2018 11:55:59 PM] |

Thank you TLD for your explanation and warning.
I go easy on dietary supplements myself having a blood mutation that is sensitive to many of them. If I lived in Maine or other places with large populations of black flies, I would certainly study my options. In this case, our Minnesota trek, we're talking virtual black flies, but I would think that they are present live in many locations in your country, so therefore a piece of advice like yours - which even comes with personal experience - valuable. ![]() Are the insects that would attack you when you're outdoors black flies - or just any biting buggers? |

We have No-See-Ums or gnats that can go right through a window screen, Mosquitoes, Horse flies, deer flies and yes according to the Seattle times Black flies. However there are probable 100's if not 1000's of different kinds of black flies so i don't know if we have the same kind as they have back east.
