Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thank you for all the visits here. We ♥ communication!
Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Doneskerose left yesterday for other business.
Shortly after we received a telegram saying that TLD rose had gone home to SeriousCrunchers,
and blimey, this morning a new telegram told that tanner2 rose had arrived safely at SeriousCrunchers as well.
Thank you for participating all of you. I hope we’ll be able to create treks more interestering than this Maine one, and that you’ll come again all three of you. If the rest of you want to cut the trek short, I sure understand.
Urden, I see that la Capitaine Saphir12 has no less than four challenges running until April 30. Why don’t you and I join Kraland right now? biggrin
Our current crew has shrinked. We are:
rose acpartsman
rose BladeD
rose davwhite5xq7
rose little mermaid
rose Urden
rose yodap@BC

All this defecting began to resemble mutiny or voting with the feet, so I discussed the matter with sujo1 and tanner2, and it seems that the lack of communication with the host team brings us down. I also understand from acpartsman’s post that he would like to see some exchanges. And I agree.
Any input from any other Base Camper is welcome.

It’s time to rethink what we do. I’m not prepared to bury Base Camp just yet. We have a Grand Galla SNURK trek to see to in September, and we also need to relax. To begin with, I think we should cut our Maine trek short. I have promised Bearcat of Minnesota Crunchers to join there on May 2 as a long distance support when he shall under the knife to have some more vertebrae fused to relieve his chronic back pain.
If any of you feel like accompanying me, I should like that very much, and we could easily turn it into a trek with a badge and everything.

But before we leave Maine, we should climb Cadillac Mountain before sunrise – well, we could camp at the top and make it easy on ourselves. At 1530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is the tallest mountain on the East Coast of the United States. That might not seem very high, but you’ll be above the clouds, and the moment when you first see that orange glow is transcendent.
It must be a cult thing like Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs on Coney Island tongue
I shall also show you my own photo of how man’s doings are reclaimed by nature.
Finally, we have to go to Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village and visit the museum. The craftsmanship of these people is second to none, as is the very simple design. It will stick forever.

I don’t know how, but I need to make room for a couple of these carriers .
Oh, yes, we cannot leave Maine without looking at one of the many covered bridges either

We have not heard any more from Fossaw. I hope he’ll pop up again.
NAP2614 has been unable to participate in many of our recent treks because of his wife’s illness and now also his own ’hell’s fire’. Because he takes a great interest in our ventures and contribute with the badge side of our treks, I decided as per special rule bending to deal him the top40.nl, the Hungary, the Andrax, and the Cahuamos ones along with the Maine badge, and I’ll have this arranged at the Base Camp Hall of Fame tomorrow when also the nine Base Campers from the Maine trek will be dealt their well deserved badges.
Let dinner be

Nathan's Famous directly from Coney Island
Thank you for trekking along …
♥ See you later ♥ Au Revoir ♥ Auf Wiedersehen ♥

Yes, she will when the time comes wink - but first she has a lecture nerd
Good Morning Base Campers!
In essence our Maine Community Grid trek has seeped, petered out, tapered out, vanished, evaporated … it’s over. I shall notify yodap@BC about this. Of course, those of you who wish just remain for the planned duration – until April 30. You have received your badges in the Base Camp Hall of Fame and nap received his honorary ones.

We had a good discussion about what to do, because we agree that treks to teams that don’t wish to interact is no fun.
And fun should be a large part of trekking.

TLD wants a maximum trek length of seven days. I’m happy whenever you come, TLD, and for any number of days you put in. I agree with you that one-week-treks should be the norm, but also that norms can go unusual under unsual circumstances. I keep recalling the top40.nl trek as great fun mainly because captain adriverhoef wanted to play. Very much so. And literally with music, too. And that particular trek lasted for almost one month, and we participated in challenges during that trek, too. But still, let’s stick to seven days being the norm, TLD. But it goes for everybody that you may put in one or seven or - in exceptional cases - 25 days as you please.

sujo1 suggests we identify teams that want to communicate so we can get to know them.
It is much more interesting to interact with the host team than not ….. the host should show some involvement
acpartsman wants that as well, and so do I.
In the old UD days (if I remember correctly) We would forward candidates for invasion, wait no that's not it, d oh for camping trips then vote for the worthy team. I must say that may not be as easy as the old days.( no off campus forum) at the very least get to know the captains/active members before y'all jump. wink Again not really my place to say as I can not join in the trips.
sujo1 says that we made better research years ago, and that is was easier, too, because the number of active teams – teams with team pages in the Teams section of these Forums and often forums of their own as well – was much larger. Advance scouting now will probably boil down to:
a. selecting teams from the existing – or should I say ’remaining’ – pool of active teams based on suggestions from the Base Campers
b. advertising for other teams who would like the boost we can give them and would like to interact with us
These ’other teams’ could
a. open a team thread of their own or
b. post in Base Camp’s team thread – which adriverhoef did very successfully during the top40.nl trek
You may want to try a more less subtle approach to the problem of camping trips. I.E. BASE CAMP WANTS YOU!( place one of your mermaids pointing outward ala uncle sam posters) peace DO YOU HAVE A TEAM that wants a boost, just tell us and we will open a dialogue with any and all. WE WOULD LOVE to come camp in your back yard.
My dreamburner worked on that, sujo1, and reported:
Mermaids need to be these gentle creatures, romantic, sentimental, melancholic and dreamy, but sometimes very happy as well. But they are not good at recruiting the Uncle Sam way; however they may be able to behave less subtlely.
I’ll see what I can do about sharpening our profile when advertising for potential host teams, sujo1, and I hope you will review the tone and style as we go and give feedback on your findings unabashedly.

I think we should discuss our way of operating the way we have done now at intervals as needed so we can adjust and adapt along the way, because we were rushing down a narrow cul-de-sac serpentine road.
Blindfolded.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
It’s a new day. The Maine trek fizzled. That’s how it goes.
acpartsman feels bad because he suggested Maine. No problem, my friend. Just a way to learn something which is a good thing.
But of course you cannot have your fat cat in your side of the bed tonight shame on you
acpartsman and davwhite5xq7 are back with SeriousCrunchers.
If you have business elsewhere
– and yodap@BC did, but nevertheless hasn’t moved his rig yet
you better tend to that.
Urden, Saphir12 is missing your presence at Kraland. She has signed up Kraland for a number of challenges.
BladeD you better investigate what has become of your home team captain SNURK. He hasn’t been seen for a while. I hope SNURK is OK himself and not getting tired of making the signs, crunchers, Base Camper TLD among them, are queuing up for.

On May 1International Workers day

- in my country seriously celebrated by true believers with the trade unions' red flags and beer from early morning via speeches from politicians on to beer for the rest of the day - but not me, I’ll move to Minnesota Crunchers. I promised Bearcat to give him long distance support as he’ll have surgery on May 2 to have more discs in his spine fused to relieve his chronic and severe back pain. I – and hopefully Bearcat as well would welcome all the support we can muster, so if you feel like it we could stay with his team from May 1 and four days on so it ends at another historical date – May 4 – when the German forces in the Netherlands, Northwestern Germany, and Denmark surrendered to Field Marshall Bernard Law Montgomery’s British troops in 1945, he who in 1946 became knighted into Bernard Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein.

nap is on a sentimental journey to the Edwardians with his machines. I think he could be persuaded into making a badge if we get sufficient Base Campers to call it a trek. That will be five.
nap is still haunted by hell’s fire.

For me today was a consultation with a dietist as part of the rehab program for heart patients. My choice of foods were OK, my choice of drinks apart from milk and coffee were not even as I have cut down on the G&Ts. My non-existent schedule for meals was not OK either. Drinks and lack of regularity contribute to my extra five kilos staying where they are. No magic solution, no shortcuts. We agreed that open faced shrimp sandwiches could be made ’buttered’ with mayonnaise instead of saturated fatty acids butter.
I celebrated this diet wise acceptance by eating fish

She knew about the plans for reducing salt in processed food which accounts for 70% of our intake and was the patient type who can wait to have the salt contents reduced gradually, the argumentation being that a fast reduction will deter people because these foods will taste differently. I still think we could move faster and that the letter I received from the Environment&Food Minister was wishy washy and showed all signs of the industry governing the politicians instead of the other way around – not only nationally, but especially EUally, and for Denmark to cut down on salt unilaterally would be unthinkable.
The EU makes sure – or rather our politicians’ desire for us to be the model member of the EU ensures that we are not allowed to take care of ourselves independently.

Oh, and the link for Minnesota Crunchers once more.
