Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Wow, I like the trend of that graph!
So do we, Punchy
Sorry I have not caught up on this thread for a while. In doing so I discovered several more things that Anne-Lise and I have in common - which are so unusual it must be more than just coincidence.
You mean we could be siblings, too? biggrin
I also have a Crescent bicycle made in Sweden. Mine is a stainless steel racing bike that I raced in college in the late 1970's. It would definitely be a collector's item now, since they had very limited production due to the difficulty of assembling/welding/brazing the stainless steel tubing.
Whauw! It sure would be. Would you by any means have a photo of it? Was it that bike on which you took that unbelievable return trip? It must have been great riding the byways …
On the not so good side, I did get blood clots in my right leg after driving from Texas to Seattle twice in two weeks (each trip was 4 days of 9-10 hours of driving). Being so new to the area, I couldn't get in to see a doctor, and I didn't want to go to the emergency room. Luckily my wife is a very experienced nurse so I had her to keep an eye on me for any problems. After a week or so they went away.
I’m so glad you were in good hands - homegrown so to speak - and it cleared up. It's no laughing matter if these things start travelling to your lungs. Do you ascribe it to overexcertion?
Maybe we have even more in common, Punchy.
I hope you have been tested for the Leiden factor V mutation? (V as in Roman 5)
If not, I would suggest you see your new doctor i Olympia about it. It's hereditary.

More coincidence:
Leiden happens to be a city in the Netherlands with a crack university where they discovered this. I ascribe them with saving my life.
Welcome to tanner2 and ultimaThule; it's nice to have reinforcements!
We could never make these results by ourselves, so we are lucky to have you guest crunchers (captain adriverhoef wants to keep you, of course). Well, I speak for him as if he's not capable himself. He wasn't yesterday. Partying, you know devilish
One thing for our temporary captain - we were on a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam last year; our cruise director was from the Netherlands, and while she taught various words in local languages, she did not try to teach Dutch, saying it was a terribly difficult and complicated language to learn.
Our temporary captain doesn’t think Dutch is too complicated. He’s bending over double (Dutch) to teach me his ’uncomplicated’ language. The best trick he has found so far to work for me is this song
For which he has translated the songtext. I think I’m on my 82nd round – some 98 more, and I have a homerun
biggrin

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Captain adriverhoef, how are you? Your head? Your memory? Our frontdeskcomputer?

Good Morning Base Campers!
Captain adriverhoef – in spite of his difficulties focusing – succeeded in entering us in the Kraland IV Challenge
Thank you, captain. It's so easy to have one's wishes fulfilled with this captain love struck
So far just 15 teams have entered, and we shall again compete with Kraland themselves and SeriousCrunchers with Chicago-IL-USA as the black horse. Looking forward to that. cool
Not much news today. Let me stick to our current
Christmas 2017 Race
Oh-oh what a sight!
We turned our rear wheels to not only Kraland who now sits on the #13 spot
I hope 13 is a lucky number in France
but also showed these formula 1 rear wheels to SeriousCrunchers who now is #12, an attractive number which we were yearning for for days on end.
Instead, all of a sudden, top40.nl are #11
Thank you each and everyone for making this possible.
Una bella figura, indeed biggrin
Let’s celebrate

pssssttt .... I have a lemonade for you, Adri, big and healthy, your poor soul, tsk, tsk, tsk

So simple, and so delicious with the sage and the marsala sauce

For dessert: The classic tiramisú, naturalmente

Buon appetito

Added: Adri, Adri, do you hear me? You have friends with knowledge of a hangover cure. And a pleasant one at that. Looka biggrin

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Well, to recap from what I remember … our Spanish waiter Manuel was instructed to serve you topfood and he served you tofu instead (shocking!), then I was sent to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Texas, where I 'received' beat up a bag of charcoal — I guess somehow the words 'BBQ-bag' and 'BBQ-course' got mixed up or they interpret "to gain knowledge with some difficulty" ('iets in je hoofd stampen') (= to stamp something into one's head) very literally — for a BBQ-party at our Grand Hotel. At the hospital the doctors were able praying to pry the bag from my head cowboy and I understand the bag was sent to the Grand Hotel (to arrive at that BBQ-party) after which the doctors advised me to take some real good sleep, 'cause I was dazed and confused. In the meantime mevrouw Little Mermaid located me, I was in Harlingen-Hospital, and in the middle of the night I woke up with a start to find a laptop to join the next challenge and to take care of the faulty frontdeskcomputer. Then I slept a real long time.

About the frontdeskcomputer … The repairwoman whom I instructed switched two memorybanks in the faulty frontdeskcomputer and it is still running after 36 hours — knock on wood — instead of randomly freezing within 12 hours. She advised to keep it running at half its speed and I agreed.

In the meantime mevrouw Little Mermaid has picked me up, ran me a nice hot bath at the Grand Hotel and managed to enter some new guests into the hotelregister (what a feat, thank you, mevrouw Little Mermaid!) — one of them joined us for only one night, but it was big fun! wasn't it, mevrouw Little Mermaid? — Thank you again, mevrouw Little Mermaid! For taking care of everything while I was unconscious (sort of) and missing the party.

What about polarbeardj, mevrouw Little Mermaid? Will he arrive here in time? Or at all?
To Punchy@BC: Welcome in our team and nice to meet you, too! What can I say about Dutch? Well, once you know German (you already know English!), than Dutch is not that difficult anymore. biggrin … "if you speak both you will clearly have a huge advantage."

Thanks for the glass of lemonade, mevrouw Little Mermaid, that tasted deliciously, it was good to have this lemon-aid. wink (terrible joke)
I heard the repairwoman loved salty lemon-aid. I'm glad she didn't ask for a salty dog; do we actually have that on our Grand Hotel-menu?

EDIT: Historical feat added:
11 top40.nl 7,362,549
12 SeriousCrunchers 7,354,032
13 Kraland 7,079,777

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Captain adriverhoef, I cannot enoughly express how happy I am that you - and our frontdeskcomputer - have regained all of your/its faculties at half speed.

tanner2, it was so sweet to have the visit from you.
I take it you don't like Italian - the food, I mean; I have a long memory biggrin
Whenever you're ready, there will be Franklin Barbeque again
- and our captain will prepare it himself
- no more little black, black, crispy, undefineable crusts blushing

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

- rushing in

this is stefada's superb advice for partying - and for repairing, if you partied on methanol.
Almost pure ethanol to give you the euphoric effect without the unwanted methanol side effects ....

Let's celebrate you coming back, captain, and forget all the hardships you went through .... tongue

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

What a show, there they go! As was to be expected SeriousCrunchers traded places with team top40.nl, since tanner2 left the latter (our) team (unexpectedly?) after a night of big fun in the Christmas Race 2017, the latter team also having to cope with a faulty frontdeskcomputer that is running at half its speed.
11 SeriousCrunchers 7,999,325
12 top40.nl 7,820,809
13 Kraland 7,478,687
The distance between top40.nl and Kraland is growing:
Yesterday the gap (do I hear the Gap Band playing?) was 282,772, today (19-12-2017) it's 342,122 points. Are we burning rubber yet, rubberbandman?

Note: I cannot thank mevrouw Little Mermaid enough for locating me, getting me champagne and bringing me back to the Grand Hotel! Something tells me she is a Miracle Worker …

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
It was emotional to see tanner2 let himself fall by the wayside again tsk, tsk, tsk ….
But it was not unexpected. I think I almost understand the philosophy of my Little Brother. I think he’ll try to make both SeriousCrunchers and us #12, which at any rate would be a very difficult task.
tanner2, if you decide to make another French visit – that’s the ’kiss and drive’ type you find at train stations and airports – we'll appreciate it.
The rest of the team cleared their minds with a trip in the sauna last night which ultimaThule whipped up with great Finnish expertise, and everyone performs reliably.
Thank you for being here smile
Added: You asked about the polarbeardj, captain. I'm afraid we shall never see him. As I remorsefully explained in some earlier post, I overinterpreted and was overly optimistic blushing and in general understand men poorly.

In the meantime let it be known that we do have vacant rooms at our Grand Hotel, and that our room service menu now includes Salty Lemon Aids as well as Salty Dogs.
We have an authentic Finnish sauna courtesy ultimaThule.
We also serve almost-methanol-free Champagne.
You should really stick to that, captain adriverhoef.
So please meet us at the frontdesk and specify your wishes for accomodation, and we’ll do our best to serve you.
If we don’t have it handy, we’ll make it for you in a jiffy

Christmas 2017 Race
tanner2 is able to tip the weigth to and fro, isn’t he? SeriousCrunchers are back at #11, and we are now at this nice #12. But unfortunately Kraland now has to occupy room #13. How do you feel about that, Kraland? Is 13 a good or a bad number in France?

Captain adriverhoef, they called from Harlingen to enquire how you intend to make this container whole again.

What did you do to it? Oh, you flinged that bag of charcoal shock The one you grabbed from sujo1's pickup? It must have been very heavy! Oh, you thought that container was sujo1!
Aha!
I was not aware you were this strong even when overcome with fear an fury …

Adri’s Salty Dog link, made my mind wander to the sea. In my childhood
- why not? my very early childhood. What’s wrong with a little imagination? devilish
Danish TV sent a series about a Bristish aircraft carrier, the ’Ark Royal’, and if for nothing else, I had to watch in order to hear Rod Stewart’s hoarse voice singing I Am Sailing
– indeed he was.

And the WTC Towers still stood.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thank you for your kind words, captain adriverhoef. You are such a good captain love struck It has been a hectic couple of days - many Base Camp treks have been 'unusual' but I think this one takes the prize ...
I hope you are all right again, and that our frontdeskcomputer will last albeit on half working speed until the new one arrives.

Good Evening Base Campers!
Dinner will be the Danish fast food staple. Røde pølser – red sausages of the third degree.
On September 11, I visited Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog at Coney Island.
The original. Since 1916. It was a cult thing for me to do.
And the experience was augmented by the most splendid weather money can buy
- and a hug from Gene, the retired firefighter.

They were very good, but – I’m sorry to say – second to the Danish ones.

The basic serving looks like this:

but don’t despair, we do hot dogs too and we vary the pølse theme in uncountable ways.

Tradition demands that you drink Cocio with it.

Cocio is a cocoamilk. I never did it. My head and my stomach tell me I shouldn’t. Try it at your own risk.

Many years ago my nation almost went under. They prohibited coloring the sausages red. The wave of additives and food colorings, you know. All of a sudden we would die from it. Relatively fast a coloring that passed any regulatory demands was invented, and calm was restored. Now you can choose between organic looking ones and the red ones.
En pølse skal serveres med følelse
A sausage should be served with style and delicate care

For dessert we’ll have all the ice cream we can eat

Enjoy, and thank you for crunching with top40.nl

I have come for Hotdogs! Turns out the smell led me in the right direction for a stay of indeterminate length.
