Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

One of our team's members has just added one device again that has only one core - it should crunch at least one large FAH2 per day. Every little bit helps.
How do you know?
Are you asking me how do I know that every little bit helps? Or that the device should crunch at least one large FAH2 per day? Or that the device has only one core? I read in another thread you have psychic powers. Do I understand correctly they don't work very well? devilish Maybe a little hocus pocus will help. Just focus, mevrouw Little Mermaid!
I assure you, our guests will never complain about the music. There is something for every taste. This link top40.nl opens a veritable cornucopia of music where you can navigate to the end of the world and back and beyond.
You keep impressing me and everybody else cool

Adri, ever never has Base Camp had so much music. How lucky we are to have bumped into you love struck
Well, what can I say? It's my life. Music makes the world go round. Why? - This is why.
I have wondered if you were actively participating in the Forums from your start at WCG? We must have been here simultanously, your join date being Apr 3, 2009, and mine Mar 20, 2011. We have had a couple of overlapping years. But I never noticed you. Were you silent?
I have searched the forums and found my first post in 2012. My second and third one were in 2013.
I have been very extremely busy (no, really!) in my early years at WCG with … my first Hitdossier book (the 11th edition). Here is the real cover of the book. It took three years of research, programming, directing a team of people, editing the 47 spreadsheets (one per year) and advising the book designer and probably some short nights, too.

And NOW while I was out the Management tells me I have a RUBY for Ebola.
Congratulations! You're asking 'What have I done to deserve this?'. Well, that's what you get. If you keep on computing long enough you get what you deserve. rose

EDIT: Added a link to the real cover of the book. The original cover wasn't approved.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Are you asking me how do I know that every little bit helps?
batting eyelashes No, even mermaids are aware of that.
Or that the device should crunch at least one large FAH2 per day?
Getting closer
Or that the device has only one core?
Getting even closer
I read in another thread you have psychic powers.
I do. And it seems you do too tongue
Do I understand correctly they don't work very well?
No, you don’t. They work very well, and when I focus I see that you have something going on with Mrs Jones, and when I really set my mind to it, I’ll go as far as thinking I can read – and understand - the Japanese subtitles. I gave you this veiled option to tell of your affair with Mrs Jones
- and you wiggled yourself out of it in a quite elegant and sneaky way devilish

Well, one post in 2012 and two more in 2013 doesn’t exactly bring you into the Ace Cruncher League, does it, Adri?
Besides, you occasionally use a language I would never learn. Business Language. I’ll take Dutch, even Hungarian, but I have no idea what you savvy guys talk about. None whatsover. But I trust you will help me if need be. In mermaidish even if need be.
But you talk now. Your post count is at a whopping 415, and mind you, many of your posts are LISTENING POSTS, because you give us delicious servings from your treasure chest of music.
Thank you ever so much. I’m so glad I was courageous enough to let myself bump into you at KliK’s place biggrin
- my German is not all that good, you know, so it did take courage blushing on several levels blushing
And I see we have a new very happy post here. I’ll deal with that ASAP biggrin

Good Morning Base Campers!
adriverhoef's little team is rolling with his permanent staff and us five intruders.
We are doing nicely - not only that. We are making
una bella figura
Well, this info has become obsolete, but what's wrong with a bit of history smug
SeriousCrunchers still cover our back at #14 with a total of
1,084,467 points
If they make another
314.039 while we make none - just a thought experiment - they will be next to us at - still that hotel troubling number - #13 with
1,398,506 points
Chicago-Illinois is right in front of us at #12 with
1,403,932 points
a mere 5,426 points in front of us as adriverhoef mentioned yesterday, so if that tendency continues, we shall have an unobstructed view of Kraland who is speeding away at #11 with 2,007,578 points - no less than 609,072 points ahead of us, but that is actually 42,039 less than yesterday which means we gained on Kraland. Not much, but still a gain.
They say they update the statistics at 23:59 UTC, but one thing is a naval map to read another a ship to steer. That was a rather verbatim translation of a Danish saying which could boil down to ’theory is one thing, practice another’. I guess you all have a corresponding one in your language.

Punchy@BC visited Budapest in September, I was there in May, and adriverhoef linked to this Hotelsuite video that takes place at the Géllert Hotel hotel where I stayed at a modest room but sucking in the atmospere of this classic hotel nevertheless. So many Hungarian threads weaving together. I am a believer in fate, coincidences, and chance.
I had a ticket to a concert in Szent István (St. Stephen’s Basilica). The first number played on the organ, Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, made everything vibrate, inclusive of your mermaid.

Tonight I’m going to the theatre, having dinner next door before the performance. The play is on tour from the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. 'Med sne’ – ’With Snow’ deals with dementia. No laughing matter, but if it happens to me, I shall probably be unable to register what happens, so better get an insight now while most faculties still work acceptably. You are supposed to buy three tickets for the season’s plays. I bought this one and another for an experimental one also happening to deal with dementia and ’The Swan Lake’ ballet. That was cancelled sad
I wish you all a pleasant Thursday with trouble free crunching. smile

Pssst ….what do you say, Captain Adri? idea
Could we run this one simultanously?
Just six days?
While we’re at it?
Please, adriverhoef

I actually saw employees of the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem build this decoration - maybe they 'just' change the flowers on a daily basis?

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

This is funny, adriverhoef. And I'm so relieved that we snuck (not SNURK, but snuck!) out of that #13 and into the significant #12. 12 apostles, 12 months, 12 to a dozen, divisible by 2, 3, 4, and 6, 12 cranial nerves, my Norse God for wisdom had 12 sons. A very good number, indeed. I never thought we could do so well when we started out, but then again, I was never in races until the recent Kraland I. Therefore I beat around everywhere for assistance, but it turns out that the assistance we have from the Crunching@EVGA people is just what we needed. Not that our Grand Hotel doesn't want more guest. We do!

You listed the numbers, Adri, so I'll just make a couple of statistic comments. The distance between SeriousCrunchers and us is fairly constant at about 315,000 points. The distance between Kraland and us is exactly 518,951 points which is reduction of some 90,000 since yesterday. We gained faster than the day before yesterday. It may have chance causes, but we see a significant tendency.

We passed Chicago, but Chicago moved a very big structure hypnotized I never really fathomed that. They move entire houses on a daily basis in that country! They have this can-do-spirit of settlers and homesteaders. There's nothing you can do that can't be done ...
Just think of the Panama Canal. They hired engineer/contractor Ferdinand Lesseps who had all the theoretical knowledge and some practical, too, fresh from completing the Suez Canal. But he broke his neck on yellow fever and what have you. Enter We-Can-Do-That with Teddy Roosevelt in front. It’s wasn’t as if the yellow fever died out, but not weighed down by the wish of doing it correctly as Ferdinand wished – and how can you when it has never been done before? – the can-doers did it.

Speaking of the Panama Canal, I feel the urge to get you started on practising Base Camp’s Christmas hymn: X-mas On the Isthmus of Panama (courtesy of deltavee)

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Evening Base Campers!
You are working hard. Are you hungry?
The meal I had tonight was so good that I talked the cook into making some take-out for you:
Roast duck with trimmings followed by rice àl’amande with cherry sauce.

Bon appetit tongue

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I pacified him, Adri, he's now a
SNURKen dinosaurus

These are very good numbers, captain
nerd We increased our distance to SeriousCrunchers by 16,879 points
- not much but much, much better than status quo
Yes, Kraland, beware! alien 2
We gained 63,191 points on you, and off the cuff
this will mean that we should be able to pass you
by December 16th all things being equal.

In case captain adriverhoef finds another
Mrs Jones in his kitchen drawer and gets something going on with
Mrs Jones #2 as well rolling eyes
we may get there by December 15th
biggrin

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Since you wrote '(een) SNURKen dinosaurus' I was wondering how we do that I Dutch. Using an infinitive combined with a noun. But that would involve a taalles (language-lesson). This may be off topic.
One way, the present continuous (verb + -ing): de dinosaurus is aan het SNURKen, or: de dinosaurus ligt te SNURKen.
Another way, as an adjective (verb + -ing): then we have to add -d or -de (this depends on the gender of the noun).
de dinosaurus (the dinosaur) → de SNURKende dinosaurus
het bakbeest (the whopper) → het SNURKend(e) bakbeest
een monster (a monster) → een SNURKend monster

Het bakbeest
didn't swallow you, or, mevrouw Kleine Zeemeermin? Hello? Am I hearing you from inside its belly or from a distance? And if it's a zeemonster (like Nessie) does it hurt if it takes you to the bottom of the sea?

EDIT: een monster is of course a monster, not the.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I intended it to be 'snoring dinosaur' - a dinosaur in the act of snoring.
Loudly.
But of course it has to be made difficult, tsk, tsk, tsk ...
It was a simple snoring dinosaur. Nothing to it.
Snokende dinosaur.
OK, it would be
de dinosaurus (the dinosaur) → de SNURKende dinosaurus
then. Did I choose correctly worried
But I'm glad it sent you on an investigative trip into your own language.
This is what I have enjoyed very much as a positive side effect of our exchanges in 'FC Language United'
- and if it finally happens to you as well, so much the better.
biggrin

BTW: I found this one in French. The pronunciation seen from my point of view couldn't be better - and it even has a hyphen.
So much more digestible to me than any other version I heard.
