So now we're 'pen friends' as well, Bearcat
![]() Had a fine day in New York. Went to 911 Museum. It was formidable. I choked. For a couple of hours. The visitors were as dignified as the setting. Used to think New Yorkers were arrogant. Not any more! I have met nothing but kindness from them - and from those from Peru, Japan, Ireland, Delaware, Turkey, Germany, North Carolina, Scotland, and India. Used to be a geography buff. Still am. GPS hates skyscrapers, so I ask directions from the woman who walks her dog, and the man who looks like he lives here and turns out to have done so all his life. Do you think I love the USA? You should see the armband I gave myself... |

Walked The High Line, a rather new and awfully popular narrow park created on an old elevated railway. Frederick Law Olmsted would have approved. The view of the Hudson Yards development is breathtaking.

Went to Columbia University, were allowed into a library. They still have books.
Went to Coney Island and had a Coney Island Lager, good stuff, to go with my iconic Nathan's famous hot dog, which was good stuff, too. In between some spectacular subway stations: the 125th Street elevated like a toppled Eiffel Tower, the 190th Street with its long tunnel entrance, the Brooklyn Smith/9th with an especially attractive view of Manhattan, and the double elevated at NY Aquarium. All thanks to my 7-day MTA swiping card. It brought me downtown at dusk to take part in the public ceremony as well. All Base Camp work. Want to join me crunching for Minnesota Crunchers for a day or two? |

As a Base Camper you will
- get to visit New York City - have your bag checked by the real McCoy: SECRET SERVICE - and get to have a G&T at the Trump Bar - and get to enjoy the shiny brass and the polished Breccia marble of Trump Tower - get to hike eight miles while honing your pedestrian navigating skills - get to take oceans of pictures - get a hug from a slightly tipsy retired FDNY firefighter + - by the end of every day you'll get an Arby's classic roast beef sandwich with many potato cakes. Taking applications now! |

Good to see you're up and about.
![]() There is a change of location to DC if Greyhound can find their bus on the tracker. I cannot. Hope it will be there in person at the #64 gate as I was informed at my reconnoitre. PABT is a really huge affair ![]() |

In less than four hours Base Camp was moved to Washington, D.C. smoothly and expertly done by the driver.
This is Cikadeeland. Had almost forgotten the nice sound of these little guys. It is Muggyland, too. The Viking faction of Base Camp tolerates this poorly but looks forward to air the cool clothes that went idle this year due to a far below average Vikingland summer. They wear suits and high heels here and move at half the speed of New Yorkers. They can smile and smalltalk. Cannot wait to get going with Mr. Moeller's walks. A glimpse of Union Station and National Postal Museum was a perfect appetizer. |

Base Camping in Minnesota with free excursions, how does that sound to you?
Talking about sound: the fan in my bathroom cannot work seperately from the light. It's not a bathroom. It's a jet engine test lab. Very powerful fan! Mr Moeller, I finished your Capitol Hill walk. The Supreme Court and the Library of Congress are superb. And, like you, I lost my heart to the National Association of Realtors' green, slim Viking boat. I'll carry on tomorrow, Mr Moeller, with your Mall walk. |

A glimpse of Union Station and National Postal Museum was a perfect appetizer. Made a trip to Washington D.C. a number of years ago. I was impressed by both of these places. I spotted Johhny Rockets in the basement of Union Station and had to have a meal there. I recall it being delicious and the service was good. Washington has no lack of interesting places to see. Enjoy your trip. Cheers
Sgt. Joe
