Our campaign for a separate word games forum has not been met with success so how about....
----------------------------------------A Geek forum where we could discuss WCG Stats/Technology/Global Warming/Shuttle Launches/Interesting Science Stuff without this rolling off the front page and lost in the fog of time (this takes less than 2 hours) btw those Stats are picking back up as the Northern Hemisphere returns to it's studies The Barcelona Quad core uses just 23.75Watts per core and chucks out in excess of 12GFlops The 2Ghz *4 Opteron is matching the 2.33Ghz * 4 Xeons 2.5 Ghz Parts coming soon and Phenom Launches in December for AM2 Socket but hey no one will see this post Dave ![]() |

I would like to experiment with a quad core too but will await a price drop. I especially like the low wattage as I had a big heat load problem in my office this summer.
----------------------------------------Actually I would like a whole cabinet of blade servers, 3-phase electrical system and a chiller ... but I have to win the lottery first. But right now I am out of DSL ports so I have to deal with that problem first. It is always something. STS-120 is still on schedule for the October launch. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html <dataman> ![]() |

Hi Guys each week I put away that money I don't have towards that Phenom for when it arrives in December. You should see the size of wad of cash I don't have to do it
---------------------------------------- 23.75 W per core though each producing more crunching power than the 89W of this single core socket A has to be the way to go AMD are promising that they will be compatible with existing AM2 socket designs but to move away from this nforce 2 board that I am finally using all the bells and whistles on, the mobo I'm looking at to replace it will be http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php...mp;catid=5&subcat=806 still the other side of £100 !! then there's the memory upgrade to DDR2 and the pci graphics card should be at least DX9 maybe even 10 and I might as well go 64 Bit Vista on a new raided set of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php...p;catid=14&subcat=167 and before you know it old trusty Socket A still looks OK to me but we can but dream and pick our way through the benchmarks. Despite what they are saying I think the AMD 4 core is going to be a long term winner. Dave ![]() ![]() |

Hey! I would work with any expansion. We are like sardines in here. AND if you have a topic that will take time, it won’t get it. Well as things are now. The problem this makes is so great and the actions have been so poor, that I have given up on asking. The real problem is more like “is there someone at the helm?”
----------------------------------------Dave, did you read the Chicken Little thread? > http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16164 Do you know the composite cast of characters? The reason why I wrote the thread was to see if there was any depth in the understanding of why a small forum hurts them as much as they think it would gain. Oh, and to tell those in the other threads how out of perspective their concepts were. The fact that the thread was moved w/o the others, showed me that my worst fears were realized. What I can only hope for now isa "reluctant compromise" to a problem that has plagued the grid.org transition since day one. A problem that many here have enjoyed. Enjoyed like watching an enemy fleet run aground, but the problem is we are your family. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by courine at Sep 15, 2007 7:09:44 AM] |

Courine, nobody understood what your Chicken Little thread was about. Sorry. You need to make things painfully clear around here, if only out of respect for our multilingual friends.
As for getting things from WCG - well, David Autumns and I have been waiting and asking for some features for years. But we try to keep a sense of proportion. Important things are addressed immediately. It's just WCG have different priorities. So we keep asking, and WCG provide - eventually. |

D, I would respond more to this, but im still responding to the email from so many nobody's to spare the time. They all want to know how long will they have to live in a place where murder of little chicks is allowed.

A few months ago (will look for post if needed) the CA's were saying that the bulletin board software would be upgraded late in 2007 or early in 2008. Is that still the timetable or has that been pushed back even further?

I don't believe we have heard any different, so that's the best information we have.
However, the firm decision to move to BOINC has altered a few things. I wouldn't expect WCG to do any further UD integration work between now and UD's eventual exit. I'm not clear how much work is needed to integrate a forum with the existing databases, but my guess is WCG will be looking for ways to minimise the work. |
