Hey there!
I finally found ya. Where I live, electricity cost about 50% more than what U said a few post b4. Thats why I am thinking on dismantling all my P3s and AthlonXPs... I kinda like my P3 800, coz its hee with me everyday for like 7years now, but I pay the price of a new puter in a year I guess if I keep for much longer. BTW, I just let my C2Q6600 loose on BOINC yesterday, keep checkin how my score will change? ![]() |

Yes, the Q6600 vortex, MUHAHAHAHAHAHA. Im running power tests across a wide range of systems here. Every class of processor from 500mhz to the Q6600. The objective is to plot when it is the best to upgrade, based on the power costs. I have to do this if I want to expand, as the whole place I live in only has one 15amp breaker.
----------------------------------------This means that if I want to use the microwave, I better figure this out soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Buy some UPSs Courine! So when you switch the microwave on, your puters can work on without any probs for the time being...
Better buy 1500VA or higher if you want to put more puters behind it. For crunching thos can supply power for 15minutes surely. |

The reason I ask is that until recently I lived in a fairly small apartment - around 6 or 7 hundred sq. feet (including closets and interior walls). It was also really old - built in the late 40's. To give you an idea, the wiring was copper covered with an asbestos impregnated cloth mesh. I still can't belief the place never burned down. Anyway, even that apartment had 3 15amp lines. Another place was about 400 sq ft and had 2 lines (with a 220volt line in the basement). Even the attic apartment I had when I was in school had 2 lines - and that was just 2 tent-shaped rooms with a bathroom. Plus you should have at least one line just for the kitchen. If you really do only have the one line, then it has to be some kind of code violation and your landlord should get his/her crusty bvtt in gear and get you up to code. I hope there's a special place in hell for landlords who charge top prices for rent and don't even give tenants the basics. If you were in NJ I'd say you should stop paying rent until the problem is fixed since the lack of adequate electrical service should be considered a breach of the warranty of habitability. Now I'm really steamed!!! ![]() ![]() |

Actually Its in code because of a grandfather clause on the building. Its in code until 2023. Then they must bring it to uniform code laws.
----------------------------------------But there is another prob, the max service to the building from the pole is only 45amps for 2 units. So even if the owner fixed the building, the pole would limit service. They dont have to raise service until 2017. I live here because the binding post for my dsl is only 4 blocks away, right next to the largest transit hub in the SF bay area. So i can get around equaly as well real world or not. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

They dont have to raise service until 2017. I live here because the binding post for my dsl is only 4 blocks away, right next to the largest transit hub in the SF bay area. So i can get around equaly as well real world or not. When I bought this house, the entire thing ran off 2-30 amp screw in fuses. It used to be a rooming house and had 10 bedrooms. I have rewired (over 400' of wire) and now have a 200A main breaker panel and grounded outlets/switches in every room. They had NO dryer in here before and used a clothesline. There was 220V service to the meter, but only 110V came to the fuse panel. I had to run new cable from the meter to the new breaker box to have 220V service. The previous wiring was the 'knob & tube' type with ceramic/glasss insulators and the cloth clad wires run about 6" apart and twisted/cloth taped connections at every junction. That type of wiring wasn't as much of a hazard as you might expect because it was kept separate and used the ceramic/glass insulators. Even if the insulation was knocked off, it wasn't close enough to the other wires (except right at the plug/switch) to cause a short. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
