you can take them with salt and pepper if you want , but that´s the way it is That's the way they say it is... Otherwise CWA would be the first labor union implying "there is nothing to improve in our domain, please stop giving us work". ![]() And regarding links easy to obtain they are even easier to find when they are provided. |

There are dozens of links
![]() US 'far behind other countries in Internet speed' There is also one from CWA if you would like ![]() |

With the new projects (beta for the time being) having a high requirement on bandwidth you might like to check the speed of the route between your place and Toronto where the WCG servers are located. Getting wonderful results between your place and the closest server (possibly your ISP itself) is impressive but of no value for WCG file transfers.
----------------------------------------Using Speedtest use the minimap to center the map on North America and try to find a little blue pyramid with Toronto in its attached list, then select Toronto in this list and run the test. Note that the result of this test is the best you can expect on this route, but the bandwidth calculated and used by BOINC is a practical one measured on previous real file transfers and it will always be lower than the result of the test. If you cannot find a blue pyramid with Toronto on the map (right now I cannot) select Settings in the Menu bar, then select Toronto as the preferred server in the top right corner of the screen. Right after saving the new settings the map will come back with your preferred server (Toronto) shown as a bigger and rotating yellow star. Most probably you will still have to select Toronto in the list attached to this star. Clicking on Toronto in that list will start the test ending with a result like that. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Oct 7, 2009 7:40:01 AM] |

Byte or bit requirements? I get setting the report to kilo per second when at Byte:
----------------------------------------![]() when at bits ![]() My BOINC reports: <bwdown>242343.712242</bwdown> <bwup>14057.788489</bwup> Not getting any DDDT2-Beta, maybe because I've set BOINC to ul/dl 6 files simultaneous per project ![]() edit: added the dl value

![]() Ran a few speed tests from UK to different places in Canada. All downloads rates were over 5Mbps. All upload rates were under half a Megabit, but still very useable. Perhaps the people getting the Betas are more populous in Canada and America than in Europe because the conditions incorporated ping results or distance? Its as well I did not increase my bandwidth from 10Mbps to 50Mbps; there is no point if the rest of the Internet is so slow that you cant access anything! It does not surprise me that America and Canada are way behind the developed world. |

I think Boinc has it in Bytes - bits being the accepted standard for network rates!
----------------------------------------I would say the problems are mainly to do with contention at the Canada end and the fact that they are trying to upload too many tasks at once! [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Oct 7, 2009 9:23:40 AM] |

Well, set it to 1 UL/DL per project and it made a consistent difference... the bwdown value now sitting in the 253k range. Not enough it seems
