Re: What now?

Below are the latest massages concerning my project. It looks as if the problem is memory usage. I have it set at 100% so I don't understand why it says 95.26.

Re: What now?

These are not the top messages acpartsman.... either scroll in message tab to op of log, or exit BOINC and restart it and visit the message tab. We want to see the startup bits.

How much physical RAM has the machine and have you allowed enough Swapfile (you the pagefile.sys file seen on the C: drive).

Please go to the BOINC program dir and find the global_prefs.xml file and copy/paste content into your next post with the log messages.

cheers

Re: What now?

acpartsman:

It appears you have set your preferences to use 75% of your memory. If you go to Device manager>device profiles> and select whichever profile you use, you will see a box for percentage of memory to use. Change this to 100%. Hope this helps.

(edit for spelling)

Cheers

Re: What now?

acpartman,

See a line suggesting a possible visit of the 5.10 test version?

7/4/2007 3:52:52 PM||Reading preferences override file

You need to delete the global_prefs_override.xml to return sanity to BOINC. Else it wont be able to adopt the website profile settings. After, restart BOINC and make sure to either use Custom Settings or Maximum Performance on the Device Manager > Device Profile webpages to get full ram available.

cheers

Re: What now?

Thanks Sekerob but you totally lost me.

"You need to delete the global_prefs_override.xml to return sanity to BOINC."

How do I delete this?
Also, id there another place I need to set usage to 100% other than in preferences on BOINC Manager?

Re: What now?

Don't delete anything.

Go here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default

and select "Custom", then set "Use no more than: x % of total memory" to 100%. It may say 100 already, but it is lying. Then go to the bottom and click "save".

Finally, you need to force the agent to use the new setting (it will pick it up eventually, so this step is optional). Open BOINC Manager, make sure you are using the advanced view, go to the project tab and select World Community Grid. Then click "Update". Go to the messages tab and watch BOINC get the new preferences.

I'm sorry this is so complicated.

Re: What now?

I too am missing out big time, 22 of my machines are too slow for the other projects and my team doesn't exist on BOINC.

Well, HPF2 runs pretty beautifully on old machines with 128MB RAM. (On BOINC under Linux, at least.) Unfortunately, it requires modifying the boinc binary so that it lies about the machine's RAM in order to get WUs, but I now have all my machines running HPF2. :)

Re: What now?

I finally got BOINC installed on all my older machines. It's strange because it will run on some and not others. In fact 2 of them are P4's above 1.5ghz and niether BOINC or WCG will run on them. One tries but I keep getting a Page File Error on BOINC. Any suggestions?

Re: What now?

Hello acpartsman,
The first thing that comes to mind is a system problem. Check the size of the Virtual Memory file, check the file system, check the disk drive. Here are some Useful Utilities: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490
