Longer work units translates to less results. Just watch these pages for project related graphs as they come thru the system:

Ok..
----------------------------------------But i ´ll stick Rosetta for a while because u seem to use it for hpf2 or someting so i hope i´m doing some use anway.. And the other reason is that i tried to chruch hpf 2 and it took a lot of my CPU-power! (BOinc) i don´t know why..but i felt like i was chrunching a WU forever! ![]() -- Edited for inappropriate language - nelsoc [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 4, 2007 5:08:01 PM] |

difference with HPF2 at WCG and Rosetta is, that you can set the time to run like 2, 4, 6 hours (think default is 4) and it will do as many attempts as will fit in that time. WCG packs a fixed number, which on a slow computer takes long but on my C2D laptop does about 6... which I had the Rosetta profile set too. With Rosetta there is a random seed and i asked once and never got the straight answer on redundancy (get me the answer). At WCG each work unit has a unique seed, so you know for sure not to duplicate. Each of the 19 in the initial distribution of a work unit has a unique one in case you wondered.
----------------------------------------Actually HPF2 does take about 85mb RAM on the running with the peaks of 110-140mb, so what you see on the System Requirement page is not the expected, just possible momentary spikes. Have 2 simultaneously running on afrequent basis and notice nothing.... but that's with a load of RAM (1.5gb). The less there is the more disk swapping happens. I find out from the horse, downloaded 2 from Dr.Baker so I can see for my self what's up with their version 5.68. Last time i tried it was as hefty, if not heftier, but as said that can differ on the hardware/software combo.

I too am missing out big time, 22 of my machines are too slow for the other projects and my team doesn't exist on BOINC.
----------------------------------------One question, how do I run BOINC so my runtime, points etc show on my WCG stats? I used to run Grid until they shut down because thier project supported older slower machines like mine. Came to WCG because of the similarities in the project. Here we are, high and dry again. I can only hope they set up the configs to support the multitude of slower machines that are out there. Maybe someone should start a poll thread to see how many machines dropped off with the loss of GC.

You don't have to do anything.... BOINC points multiplied by 7 automatically add to your WCG overall points on the My Grid Statistics page. Each agents points will though not merge on the 2 different agents. Migrate: visit www.wcgwiki.org: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm. The team remains the same as that is in your My Profile and will still get credit for your BOINC to WCG converted points.
----------------------------------------Just comparing actual HPF2 on BOINC versus actual on UD. On UD it needs at times 195-225mb RAM with an equal size of VM (present batches). On BOINC it uses maximum 110-140, with VM of same size.... much smaller AND faster somewhat.

I used to run SETI through BOINC before coming to WCG and was on a team there. Do I need to quit that team before proceeding or will that team receive credit on BOINC and my team receive credit on WCG also.

If you find yourself the same team, think Didactylos posted the step-by-step yesterday, BOINC points from WCG will combine with the Seti points on an individual and team basis. You would be looking at an additional line for WCG in this page:

Okay, I got BOINC installed and running WCG but I still have no WU's. Do I need to select some project somewhere or will I eventually receive work. I do have the BOINC project box checked in MY PROJECTS on WCG.

Can you open up BOINC > Advanced View > Message Tab and copy paste the first 15 lines into a post. That will tell use your first setup details. In My Projects you best select FA@H projects for starters with that 'if....' box and save.
