Re: Request for new "Community" forums

....As I said - there are only 2 pure game threads. The other frivolous threads are perfectly suited to the chatroom - jokes, daily threads, that sort of thing.

There's Hexagame and Step Ladder. Have I missed any?

....in that case it is the Chat Room that clusters things up, hiding the really important stuff.....getting Chat room off the Recent threads will help enormously! wink

We'll keep that in mind when the forum upgrade finally arrives.

You know, I've so gotten into the habit of ignoring these that I hadn't actually noticed how many there are - I just know that they keep popping up. However I would include things such as jokes threads, anecdotes, murphy's laws, etc. since these aren't really discussions. Maybe the forum should be called the "entertainment" **forum**(edited from "thread"). Granted, some threads will fall into a gray area and it would be difficult to make a clear distinction, but at least things would be a bit better organized and it would be easier to find the threads you're interested in.

The thread watch feature helps with this, but it doesn't do much good for new threads. Your still on your own when it comes to finding them.

How many potential thread transplants would justify a new forum?

Re: Request for new "Community" forums

the My Forum Watch or Category Watch notifies on anything new if you wish. Latter in fact is enough if only interested in e.g. Support or Active Science posts, plus since the periodic mail notification tells you which authors made posts, it's a pre filter on what you think would tickle your fancy.

Re: Request for new "Community" forums

If we look at the 'Main' groupings there are 3 that really provide information and support

1. Official Messages
2. Active Research
3. Support.

The remainder are all some form of entertainment. I have no beef if peeps wish to entertain themselves but it would be nice if there was some form of setable 'filter' that would allow those who only want info or advise to restrict to the important three!

Won't forum watch notify you every time there is a post to that forum? If so, won't I still get an email every time someone posts something to the chat-room? I'm not sure that helps, but I'm setting a watch up to give it a try.

I second the idea of filtering - especially on "recent thread" - but I'll bet this is something that will require an upgrade to the forum software. As I recall, that discussion didn't go very well.

Re: Request for new "Community" forums

It went very well - after all, it's on the todo list.

It's just kind of an old topic around here.... we've wanted an upgrade for years.

Re: Request for new "Community" forums

But with more and more "entertaining" threads appearing, a lot from experienced troops coming from UD who do not require as much 'support' and more of them who DO require the support and info we are beginning not to be able to see the wood for the trees! biggrin
